A week was quick to come by.
Mondstadt was already decorated, and you
highly doubt anybody would even care for the
stupid pinwheel asters, except maybe the little kids.
You stood in front of your window and looked outside through the glass pane, Mochi sitting on the window stool. You had a hot cup of coffee in both of your hands as you tried keeping your eyelids from closing due to the exhaustion.
For the past week, you've stayed up until at least 3-4 am. And just last night, you actually didn't get any sleep. You wanted to finally finish everything all at once. And although you did manage to do so, you felt like absolute crap. The dark circles under your eyes made you look like it, and your head sort of buzzed
Well, at least you managed to keep Diluc off your mind. Which reminds you, that man just disappeared. You head to city almost every single day – and for you to not bump into him at least, not even once, is just strange. It just makes you believe he was avoiding you, which is probably the best for the both of you guys.
(but we all know u must for the sake of the chapter)
You took one last sip of your coffee before setting it down on a nearby coffee table. The wind wheels were in a few bags, and you had yet to bring them to Lisa so she could instruct you where to set them up.
Groaning, you took the plastic bags full of the craftings, and headed out.
-
"Thank you." you said quietly as the knight opened the door for you. You looked around as you entered the Mondstadt library, only to not find Lisa drinking tea where she usually was.
A tiny glint of a shiny cover hit your field of view, sitting on Lisa's desk. Curiously, you walked towards it to find a book with a note on it.
But it wasn't just any book.
It was a limited-edition copy of your favorite romance book. Plus... this book was a continuation of the series that was left off as a cliffhanger . There are only 100 copies of the book, which means only the few of thousands of other readers would know the continuation of the story. On the top of the
cover, there was a tiny note in the shape of a heart.
' A little thank you gift from your favorite ♡
P.S : Jean will tell you where to put them up! '
-Lisa ;) '
You're mood lifted as if you weren't acting like a zombie from the lack of sleep a few seconds ago.
The joy rushed through your body, and now you couldn't wait to read under the nice shade of a tree.
Not wanting to waste time, you took the book in one hand, and made your way to Jean's office. Except, once you entered, she wasn't there. You didn't want to just leave the bags in her office, as you thought it would be quite rude. So, you left the room and headed towards the exit — hoping to possibly find Jean.
You stepped out the big doors, but immediately froze when your eyes looked ahead of you. Jean was right there, which was good. But, she wasn't alone.
Diluc was also there. It was weird and coincidental that it just happened to be now that you'd run into him. They seemed to be chatting about something. If anything, Diluc had his signature poker face, yet he seemed quite content as they chatted, and Jean was smiling softly at him.
Not once have you ever seen the two talk. You knew they knew each other, but that was all. Gods, you didn't want to go up to Jean now. But, as much as you really didn't want to, you nervously began walking towards them.
With every step you took, your heart rate grew faster. Each beat pounding harder, and harder. The only thing you could hear was your breathing, and your fist clutched the plastic bags even tighter.
You made sure to stop at a respectable distance between you and Jean, as you didn't want to get too close to Diluc either. Unfortunately, the both were too conversed to take notice of you.
Man you really wanted the ground to swallow you hole, but you were already standing near her. You lowly cleared your throat, before quietly speaking.
"J-Jean?" You said, trying to get her attention. Your voice was so thin from the anxiety, that it went past her. But Diluc immediately heard you. And if he hadn't stopped talking to look at you, Jean wouldn't have noticed you at all.
Once he stopped to look at you, your body tensed up.
"Ah, Y/n, " She kindly greeted you. "I was waiting for you." She replied. You gave a forced smile as you spoke. "Where would you like me to p-put these up?"
Your voice trembled. Badly. You felt so embarrassed that you couldn't hide how much of a nervous wreck you were right now. And it was all because of one person. Although you made sure not to acknowledge him, your body said other wise. You could feel his eyes on you, as if he was analyzing your body language, and every slight movement.
Jean was also quick to notice your nervous behavior. She didn't know the reason for it, and she wanted to ask you if you were alright. She didn't want to call you out for it either, as it would probably make your situation worse if you knew that the both of them were able to see through you — which you were already aware of. So, she ended up not saying anything.
"Right, I have a paper right here that tells you where to put them up." She said, while pulling it out and sticking it towards you for you to grab. Your hands were quite full from holding your book on one hand, and the bags on the other, so you had to awkwardly set it down on the floor.
Now, you knew Jean was very kind-hearted. She was the acting grand master after all. And you knew Diluc was not the type of person to laugh or make fun of anybody, especially if it were you. But at that moment, you felt as if your action seemed so uncomfortable and dumb, you felt as if they were both silently judging and mocking you. It didn't help that they kept quiet and stared at you.
You reached out for the paper, and your hand visibly shook.
"T-Thank you." You said as you avoided both of their eyes. Without a second thought, you turned around and started fast-walking away. But Diluc's voice made you halt.
"Y/n," he called out for you. You turned around, giving a closed-eye smile. "...Yes...?" You replied hesitantly. "Your book." He said. "A-Ah! S-Sorry." You apologized.
You apologized?! Gods, you really needed to get it together.
You let out a small 'thanks', and even made sure to not accidentally brush your hand against his. And before you could mentally celebrate your leaving, he spoke up once again.
"Why don't I help you put those up? It'll be more efficient than one person, and I'll make sure we finish before the day ends."
Why the sudden kind gesture? He disappeared out of nowhere, he doesn't greet you, and now he wants to spend half of his day helping you? Doesn't he have work or something?
"No it's alright- "
"Oh! Go ahead Master Diluc. I'm sure the extra hand would be appreciated." Jean interrupts. Although she meant good, you strongly disliked her for this at the moment.
Diluc nods at Jean, and then turns to you. "Shall we get going?"
You said nothing, and only began walking.
