Cw: needles and medical whump

Whumpee spent weeks ruminating over the fact that they were getting some vaccinations at their upcoming doctor's appointment. Caretaker spent those weeks trying to gently explain that it wouldn't be nearly as bad as Whumpee was working it up to be. It was two shots. Of course, no matter how many times they said so, it didn't make it true in Whumpee's mind.

So that's how we end up in the doctors office with Whumpee wrapped around Caretaker like a blanket, Caretaker whispering soothing words and brushing Whumpee's hair gently with their fingers. Whumpee, incoherently attempting to convince Caretaker that they could probably survive Tuberculosis anyways and what's the big deal if they never go outside, right?

But in the end, Whumpee knew they needed those vaccinations so they caved and held out their arm in tired resignation. Needle 1 came and went and Caretaker told Whumpee a funny joke. Whumpee breathed in and out. One down, one to go. Through gritted teeth, they took the second one as Caretaker told them something silly to disrupt their focus and once done, Whumpee slumped back on the table. What a day! They were so brave, Caretaker said. The nurse patted Whumpee on the arm. They were SO brave, they said. They gave them bandaids with stars on them.

Caretaker carried Whumpee out to the car where they promptly fell asleep after such a distressing experience.
