Most people hate LA traffic.
Correction.
Everyone hates LA traffic.
With the sheer amount of people trying to get around the city at the same time, traffic is always a nightmare.
Unlike the rest of the world, this typically didn't bother Rodrigo. It would always allow him time to listen to a true crime podcast, smutty audiobook, or sing all of Taylor's hits at the top of his lungs. It was one of the few times during the day when he could just be.
That's because the moment he entered the office, boss bitch mode would engage.
When Jenn Kim passed away suddenly, Nova was in no shape to take over. Leadership positions like that were never her forte. She always preferred being a worker bee rather than the Queen. However, she was the one that Jenn willed the company to.
So Rodrigo stepped up.
As her personal assistant from the inception of Kosmos Entertainment, he knew exactly how the company worked. The ins and outs along with a true understanding of the vision that Jenn had when she first started the company.
Did he want to completely take over the company?
Hell. Fucking. No.
When duty came calling, he gladly put on his big girl pantsuit and took the reigns.
Just like Jenn, he wanted Nova to take over. She truly embodied the mission of Kosmos. For Pete's sake, they scored a contract with global phenomenon BTS and Nova immediately chose to treat them like normal humans.
He still couldn't believe that she wouldn't take the time of day to get to know them as artists. As much as that did irk him, he understood her point of view.
One must treat them as humans first, and artists second.
He knew it was going to be a while until she could assume the role that Jenn left for her. He was beginning to wonder if that will ever happen.
Boardroom leadership was never her style.
Working one on one with the artists, spending time getting to know them, and helping them navigate the western music industry... she excelled at that. She brought humanity to the company.
It's why Kosmos continued to thrive even after Jenn's death.
Even though he gladly agreed to lead the company while Nova navigated through her own grief, his workload tripled. Surprisingly, he enjoyed this new position but struggled internally as it wasn't initially his to have. This was Nova's position. Not his.
Jenn had willed her the company, not him.
His long-time boyfriend Gavin thankfully was supportive and understanding. As a therapist himself, he offered his services to Nova on more than one occasion.
She had yet to take him up on it.
As much as he wanted to shake her furiously while desperately begging to see Gavin's help, he knew pushing her into it all would defeat the purpose. In order for therapy to be truly effective, she had to initiate it. Although it annoyed him to no end, he knew deep down that she would reach out when she was ready.
All he could do at this point was show his unwavering love and support.
Now that they had again secured this contract with BTS, he hoped that it would help create a partnership with HYBE. A lucrative deal that would ensure Kosmos Entertainments' longevity.
With all the hard work and effort he had put in, especially recently, he did not feel the least bit guilty driving downtown. Typically he wouldn't even consider leaving the office until much later.
