A/N - This chapter was inspired by the song Here With Me by D4vd. This one is set quite a while after the end of season 4. I hope you all enjoy it.
This spot had always been where you would come when you were in desperate need of an honest conversation. Ever since the two of you had packed up a left Hawkins for the coast, it had become a safe spot. This was where he had asked you to marry him. Where he'd confessed that he'd lost his job at the bar in town. Where he'd told you that he'd actually gotten a far better job at the record store. It was where you had told him that you wanted to start thinking about buying a house and having children. It was where he'd kissed you silly as a thank you for even wanting those things with him.
And now, the two of you were sitting here together, watching the sunrise over the ocean, painting the sky a peachy pink that made you regret leaving the camera back at the house. You were sitting on the hood of the van, your legs wrapped around Eddie's hips, his back pressed to your chest. It was nice, in that familiar, calming way. But deep down, you knew that you would have to start talking at some point and perhaps that nice, calm sensation would float away on the wind.
Eddie reached up, running his hands over your knees as he leaned back against you, his head on your shoulder so that he could look up at you, sending you a soft smile. "Hi," he hummed, drawing a small smile onto your features. Somehow, even after all of this time, something as simple as that was still enough to give you butterflies.
"Hi," you hummed back softly, letting your arms shift to drape over his shoulders, resting your hands on his chest.
"So," he murmured, squeezing your knee lightly. "What did you want to talk about?"
You hesitated for a moment, your tongue darting out to wet your bottom lip as you let your gaze wander back to the sight in front of you. "I just-" your words trailed off on a soft sigh. "I wanted to say sorry for everything taking so long," you pressed on, biting down on your bottom lip.
It's not like you'd expected to fall pregnant overnight, but your little confession of wanting to start a family had come about 8 months back, and right now, you were all too aware of how not pregnant you were. You sniffled slightly, biting back tears. In the time that you had been trying, three of the girls at work had announced pregnancies. One of your best friends back home had welcomed a baby girl. A cousin had had twins. It was starting to feel like you were the only person in the world who wasn't pregnant or carrying around a newborn.
"Taking so long?" Eddie hummed, twisting around in your grip until he was nestled between your knees, frowning softly at the sadness in your eyes. "Sweetheart, I don't care how long it takes, as long as it's with you," he pressed on, reaching up to cup your cheek in his palm. "It's going to happen eventually," he reminded you. "It just takes time."
You nodded, swallowing around the lump that had formed in your throat. "But you want to have a baby," you told him.
"Of course I do, but I don't want you getting yourself all upset because it's taken a little longer than we were expecting," he hummed, using his thumb to wipe away the spattering of tears that had formed along your lash line. "I want you to be happy," he added softly, watching you nod again. "Because I love you, and as long as it's you and me, it doesn't matter how long it takes, okay? We could be wrinkly and old and I'd still be as excited about having kids with you as I am right now."
A soft snort of laughter slipped out of you at his comment. "I don't want to be the mom that everyone assumes is grandma," you chastised lightly. "I want to be a cool young mom," you added, watching his smile grow.
"You're going to be a total milf, whether we have a baby this year or in 10 years' time," he chuckled, using his palm to draw you into a gentle kiss.
When he pulled back, you pressed your forehead to his chest, letting out a soft sigh. "It feels like we've been trying forever," you murmured.
"It's not even been a year, Baby. We've just got to be patient."
You pulled away from him to look up at him with a furrowed brow. "Since when have you ever been patient about anything?"
"Since it was something I cared this much about," he answered, a small smile still pulling at the corners of his lips. "Since it was something so important," he repeated. "It'll happen when the time is right, Sweetheart," he reminded you, giving you another quick kiss.
*Time Skip*
It had been less than a month before you ended up at your spot again, wrapped up in Eddie's arms as he rocked you to the sound of the radio, playing quietly from the open van window.
"What'd you want to talk about this time?" he hummed, his mouth so close to your ear that it made a shiver run down your spine.
You pulled out of his hold without answering his question, reaching through the van window for your purse and pulling out a stick, watching Eddie's brow furrow as he looked at it. And then, it was as if something had clicked, his eyes widening in excitement as he plucked it from your hand.
"Does this mean-"
"I'm pregnant," you answered before he could finish the question, a startled little bubble of laughter slipping out of you when he wrapped you up in his arms, pressing his lips to yours in a passionate kiss.
"You're pregnant," he repeated, grinning down at you as he let his hand shift to rest over your stomach, even though the baby was nowhere close to showing you. "God, I am so in love with you," he hummed, pulling you into another deep kiss as you laughed, pure joy radiating out of the two of you.
