A/N - This chapter was inspired by the song Spit Of You by Sam Fender. Reader is Hopper's daughter in this one. I hope you all enjoy it.

In all the time that you had known Eddie, you had never seen him so mopey. Sure, he played the part of the grouchy 'freak' for the outside world, but usually, once you were both safely locked away behind the closed door of the trailer, it would all slip away. Hell, he was practically a puppy when he was alone with you, all bright smiles and corny jokes and sweetness. But today, the door had closed behind you after school, and the frown had stayed firmly planted on his face; his shoulders remaining hunched. And it had all started tying your stomach up in knots.

"Babe," you called out quietly, listening from the kitchen for any sound in Eddie's bedroom. He'd retreated in there almost immediately after you'd gotten back, abandoning you to the rest of the trailer. "Do you want me to go home?"

There was a sudden rustling in the bedroom, and Eddie's head had appeared in the open doorway, his brow furrowed. "What?"

You hesitated for a moment, your tongue dipping out to wet your lips. "I just-" you hesitated again, swallowing around the lump in your throat. "It doesn't seem like you're in the mood for company," you finally confessed. "And that's fine, it really is, but if you want some alone time all you have to do is ask-"

Eddie's frown deepened as you spoke, watching as your words trailed off into nothing.

"Ed, I feel like I'm overstaying my welcome or something," you reiterated quietly. "So, do you want me to go home?"

Eddie let out a soft huff, walking further down the hallway to where you were standing, shoulders still hunched, brows still furrowed. "I'm being an asshole-"

"No-"

"Like, the shittiest boyfriend going," he pressed on, fighting past your disagreement by simply talking over it. "You deserve so much better than me."

Suddenly, the concern had dropped from your features, replaced with anger. "Don't you fucking dare," you bit out, watching as his frown shifted from sad to confused. "No one gets to talk about my boyfriend like that, not even you," you pressed on.

"Doesn't seem fair when I'm just telling the truth-"

"It isn't the truth," you interjected. "Fuck, Eddie, that couldn't be further from the truth. You're an incredible boyfriend, but I'm with you all day at school and then I'm here until dinner most nights. I wouldn't be upset if you needed some time to yourself."

He shook his head slightly, his eyes pressing closed as he ran a hand over his face, a soft sigh slipping out of him. "I don't need any time to myself," he corrected quietly. "I just-"

There was a moment of silence, a hesitation as Eddie began to curl in on himself again.

"Ed," you pressed, reaching out to take his hand in yours, intertwining your fingers with one another. "Talk to me."

With a soft sigh, he pulled you to him with your linked fingers, wrapping himself around you.

"Wayne told me that my dad's getting out." He hesitated, his grip on you tightening slightly. "And it's fine, I mean, I'm 18 now, I don't have to go and live with him or anything, but he's going to be in town; he's going to be here, and the chances are, I'm going to end up having to talk to him."

The two of you stood quietly for a moment, your hands lifting to tangle in the front of his shirt to keep him from pulling away from you.

"And ever since I found out, I've had this stomach ache that doesn't want to go away. And I couldn't sleep last night. And I just-" he let out a soft sigh, his breath catching in his throat for a moment. "I don't want people to see him and remember that I'm his kid, you know? I don't want them to think I'm a bad person because of him."

"Baby, no one thinks you're a bad person-"

"They do," he interjected. "They already think I'm some Devil worshipping freak, and now my fucking delinquent of a father is going to show up again and they're all going to remember that I'm the fucking spit of him," he pressed on.

There was no doubt that the people in Hawkins had always tarnished Eddie with the same brush as his dad, no matter how hard he had tried to prove that beneath the hair, the clothes, and the music, he was one of the most kindhearted people going. But Eddie was the spitting image of his dad; you'd seen enough of his baby pictures to know that. And so, the town had assumed he was Alan 2.0 and there wasn't much he could do to remove that label now.

"And, you know, once he figures out that I'm dating you, once he realises that I'm in love with the Sheriff's daughter, he's going to fucking ruin it, just like he's ruined every other thing that's ever been good in my life." He paused for a moment, his breath stuttering, barely concealing a sob. "Just like he ruined our family."

"Ed," you started softly, pulling back to look up at him, so much love in your eyes that it made his stomach clench. "I'm not going to get chased off by some asshole absentee dad, alright? As far as I'm concerned I got Wayne's approval a good couple of years back, and that was the only family opinion that mattered, alright?"

"But, what if-"

"There is no 'what if'," you interjected. "I love you. I am in love with you," you reiterated. "Your dad's gonna have another thing coming if he thinks he can intimidate me into not loving you anymore."

Eddie released a shaking sigh, craning his neck to press his forehead to yours. "You're an angel, you know that?"

"I know," you teased, a small smile pulling at the corner of your lips. "Although, I wouldn't go telling your dad that, alright? Where he's concerned I'm menacing as all Hell. I want him scared of me."

There was a soft snort of laughter from Eddie, his grip on you tightening as he redirected the two of you to the couch, falling back and pulling you down on top of him like a weighted blanket.

"Take it this means you don't want me to go home," you teased quietly, hearing another snort of laughter from below you.

"Don't want you to go anywhere."
