A/N - This chapter was inspired by the song Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan, who I am totally obsessed with at the moment. It was also modelled on the opening scene of A Star Is Born (2018) when Jackson comes off stage and ends up in some random bar where he meets Ally for the first time. For this one, it's set in the modern day, with a mention of phones and such. I think this might end up being a two-parter, too. I hope you all enjoy it.
Usually, when Eddie came off stage, he wanted to be by himself. He longed for the quiet of whatever hotel room he was staying in whilst the other boys headed out for a long night of drinking and partying. But tonight, something had felt different. He'd stepped off of the stage still buzzing with energy that needed releasing.
It wasn't until he was in the back of his chauffeur-driven car, driving towards his hotel, that he'd made the decision to see what the local nightlife would have to offer. After all, it wasn't every day that he got to spend time in Hollywood. Hell, he barely ever came to the West Coast. And then, his eyes had settled on the bright pink neon hanging above one of the entrances.
"Can you drop me here?" Eddie called out, sitting forward in his seat to catch the driver's attention.
"The Pink Pony Club?" the older man hummed as he pulled over at the side of the road. "My kid comes over here sometimes; sounds like a pretty good time."
"Thanks, man," Eddie started again, letting himself out onto the street.
The older man nodded, winding down his window. "There's a diner down the street. I'll go park up and grab something to eat. Give me a call when you're ready to head out, right?"
Eddie hesitated for a moment, digging into his pocket for his wallet and pulling out a couple of notes. "Foods on me," he hummed.
After a little bit of debate, the driver had left Eddie outside the club, the street glowing in the pink neon, and suddenly, he wondered whether this was a good idea. People knew him now, they recognised him in public, and all it would take was one asshole to make the entire night a bust.
Just as he was considering giving his driver a call and asking him to come back, the door swung open and a pair of girls came stumbling out of the building, giggling between themselves, followed by one of the most beautiful singing voices he had ever heard.
"I know you wanted me to stay, but I can't ignore the crazy visions of me in LA," a voice sang softly, echoing out into the night.
Eddie had been hooked in an instant, following along through the doors and into a large open plan bar, lit a dim pink. It hadn't taken him long for his attention to fall on the singer either, standing up on the bright stage, looking as pretty as a damn picture.
"And I heard that there's a special place, where boys and girls can all be queens, every single day," you continued, pressed close to the microphone stand, your eyes lowered to your feet as you sang. "I'm having wicked dreams of leaving Tennessee; Oh, Santa Monica, I swear it's calling me. Won't make my mama proud; it's gonna cause a scene. She sees her baby girl, I know she's gonna scream."
Your eyes flashed up, looking out over the crowd as the music changed, shifting into something faster. "God, what have you done? You're a Pink Pony girl, and you dance at the Club. Oh, Mama, I'm just having fun. On the stage in my heels is where I belong, down at the Pink Pony Club-"
Eddie could've sworn that the shivers running down his spine were from your voice alone, but the way you controlled the crowd with your eyes was nothing short of a miracle. He would've killed for a talent like yours.
"I'm gonna keep on dancing at the Pink Pony Club, I'm gonna keep on dancing down in West Hollywood, I'm gonna keep on dancing at the Pink Pony Club, Pink Pony Club." Your lips split into a grin as the music slowed again. "I'm up and jaws are on the floor. Lovers in the bathroom and a line outside the door. Blacklights and a mirrored disco ball; Every night's another reason why I left it all."
He couldn't help but be totally hypnotised by your presence, all too aware of how true your words were. His jaw was well and truly on the floor just watching you and he couldn't believe that you hadn't been snatched up for a record deal already.
"I thank my wicked dreams. A year from Tennessee. Oh, Santa Monica; you've been too good to me. Won't make my mama proud; it's gonna cause a scene. She sees her baby girl, I know she's gonna scream. God, what have you done? You're a Pink Pony girl, and you dance at the Club. Oh, Mama, I'm just having fun. On the stage in my heels is where I belong, down at the Pink Pony Club. I'm gonna keep on dancing at the Pink Pony Club. I'm gonna keep on dancing down in West Hollywood. I'm gonna keep on dancing at the Pink Pony Club, Pink Pony Club."
You danced as the music swelled, abandoning the microphone in its stand as you span to the tune you were clearly so familiar with, landing back in position just as the music began to slow, your lips practically pressed against the microphone.
"Don't think I've left you all behind. Still love you and Tennessee; you're always on my mind. And Mama, every Saturday, I can hear your southern drawl a thousand miles away, saying: God, what have you done? You're a Pink Pony girl, and you dance at the Club. Oh, Mama, I'm just having fun. On the stage in my heels is where I belong, down at the Pink Pony Club. I'm gonna keep on dancing at the Pink Pony Club. I'm gonna keep on dancing down in West Hollywood. I'm gonna keep on dancing at the Pink Pony Club, Pink Pony Club."
Applause erupted from the crowd as the song came to a close, and suddenly, Eddie remembered that he wasn't on his own in the room. You weren't just performing to him, you were in a room filled to the brim with people partying and drinking and you'd held them so captive, that they'd all disappeared for just a moment.
He quickly shoved his way through the crowd, elbowing himself into a spot at the bar as you left the stage, replaced by the next act, his heart sinking as he realised that he must've missed the rest of your set.
As the bartender approached, Eddie considered his next move. You clearly belonged on a stage, but this one wasn't big enough. You deserved bigger. You deserved to be selling out worldwide arena tours.
"What can I get you?" the man behind the bar asked, immediately going to work when Eddie answered.
"That girl that was just on stage-"
"Y/N," the man supplied, watching as Eddie's lips turned up slightly.
He nodded. "Yeah, Y/N-"
"Sorry man, she doesn't date the patrons," he pressed on.
Eddie's brow furrowed slightly. "That's not-"
"Look, I totally get it," the bartender continued. "Guys come in here all the time and they fall in love the second she opens her mouth-"
"I want to introduce her to the guys at my record label," Eddie interrupted, watching as the bartender's eyes widened in shock. "Do you mind asking whether she has a second to talk?" Eddie added, holding out his card to tap against the reader.
He nodded, hurrying off to the back, only to return a couple of seconds later with you being dragged behind him. "Y/N, this gentleman wants to talk to you about a business endeavour-"
"Hi, I'm Ed-"
"Eddie Munson," you started, glancing between him and your coworker. "Corroded Coffin, right?"
"Holy fuck-"
"Yeah," Eddie answered, bypassing your friend's input. "I saw what you did up there; you've got a real strong presence on stage," he pressed on. "I think there are a couple of pretty good record producers that would jump at the chance to work with you-"
"Are you messing with me?"
"It's where you belong, right?" he countered. "Let me help you get there."
