A/N - This chapter was inspired by the song Hey Baby by No Doubt. This is set after Stranger Things and Eddie and Reader are in their mid-twenties. I hope you all enjoy it.
You had always loved watching the boys at parties. It had been a habit of yours, even in high school, sitting off to the side, making polite conversation with some girl from math class or gym or something, whilst you made sure that they weren't getting themselves into any trouble amongst the crowd. When you were younger they had all teased you for it; you'd gained the nickname of Mom after having cut them off when they'd had too much one night and it had just stuck.
Even now, as fully grown adults, you couldn't stop your worrying, sitting in a corner booth of the club and watching them flirt their way through the crowd. Of course, they were a lot more successful now than they had been at school. Hitting on girls already so deeply in love with them that they knew every little detail of their lives was far easier than flirting with cheerleaders who looked down their noses at them.
Luckily for you, you'd never had to deal with that. You'd been in love with Eddie from the very first moment you'd been introduced, and he'd been more than happy to reciprocate. He'd been treating you like a princess since day one.
He hummed when you turned your attention away from where Jeff was leaning against the bar, some pretty little blonde smiling up at him as if she'd never seen anyone so incredible in her life.
"Anything juicy?" he asked softly, leaning in just close enough that you could hear him over the pounding music.
You shook your head. "They're too far away," you complained quietly. "I'm good at reading lips, but I'm not that good," you added, drawing a snort of laughter out of you as his fingers brushed lightly over your bare upper arm.
"I need a smoke," he confessed, leaning in to press a kiss to your temple. "You coming with?"
You hesitated for a moment, your eyes roaming back over to where Garrett was hovering near a group of girls, clearly waiting for a chance to jump into their conversation. "I'm going to stay here," you told him. "I'll be sure to fill you in when you get back," you added, grinning when he drew you into a proper kiss.
"Good girl. I'll be quick."
With that, he'd gone hurrying off through the crowd to the smoking area, leaving you perched on your own in the booth, sipping on an almost empty drink that he would be sure to refill when he returned. You'd gotten into a bit of a routine for nights like these. The boys would insist on going out, and you'd both tag along, feigning reluctance, even though you loved it deep down. And then, each time Eddie would go for a smoke, you'd get a new drink. By the time he'd had 4 cigarettes, you'd have been around for a couple of hours, and you'd be happy and drunk enough to head home.
Garrett had just been on the cusp of slipping himself into the group of girls when someone tapped the table in front of you, drawing your attention up to find a guy standing in front of you. He was probably a couple of years older than you were, but clearly not the kind of person you were used to having approach you in public. Your audience tended to be a little more alternative but this guy was a total jock, with the outdated letterman jacket to prove it.
"Hi," he started, grinning at you around the chewing gum tucked between his teeth. "You're Y/N right?"
You hesitated for a moment, your eyes darting over in the direction Eddie had just gone, finding no sign of him. "Right," you finally murmured, turning your attention back to Garrett, and the group of girls who seemed totally infatuated with his presence.
"You're the one from Corroded Coffin," he pressed on, more of a statement than a question. "You guys started out in Hawkins, right?"
Your brow furrowed slightly, your eyes fixing on him. "Yeah," you uttered, watching his smile grow.
"That's so wild. I'm from Hawkins."
You nodded. "Cool-"
"Did you go to Hawkins High?"
You hesitated again, frowning slightly. "Yeah-"
"What year did you graduate? We might've been there at the same time-"
"I don't think-"
"Hey Baby," Eddie interrupted, slumping down into the booth beside you, his arm landing haphazardly around your shoulders. "Who's your friend?"
A small smile pulled at the corners of your lips as you turned to look at Eddie, relieved to have him back at your side. "Oh, I didn't actually get a name," you hummed, turning to look at the guy with furrowed brows.
The guy let out an awkward chuckle, his tongue darting out to wet his bottom lip as he shifted on the spot, all too aware of Eddie's eyes watching his every move. "Sorry, I should get going-"
You let out a snort of laughter as he practically tripped over himself in his haste, moving through the crowd towards the bar.
"Your new friend is real skittish," Eddie hummed in your ear, grinning when you reached up to link your fingers through his where they dangled off of your shoulder.
"I don't know," you murmured, fiddling with his fingers lightly. "I think my boyfriend is just super intimidating," you added, hearing him chuckle as he leaned in to press a kiss to your cheek.
"Super intimidating," he repeated back to you, watching your smile grow. "You want another drink?"
You hesitated for a moment before shaking your head. "I think I should take my super intimidating boyfriend home before he scares anyone else," you teased, snorting when he pressed his nose against your cheek.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah," you confirmed quietly. "The boys can survive one night without us."
