A/N - This chapter was inspired by the song Bad Woman by Paloma Faith. I hope you all enjoy it.

When Billy had pulled his car up at the curb outside of your house, ready for the weekly event of watching whatever game was on TV with Tommy, he hadn't been expecting to find him standing outside on the front lawn, surrounded by his things. And he definitely hadn't thought he'd find you out on the front porch, scowling with your face like thunder, staring down at your husband like you hated him.

He sat quietly for a moment, contemplating leaving and pretending that he hadn't seen your little domestic falling out. He could just pull away from the curb and act like he'd forgotten that he even had plans to come over.

But then, whilst he was still making his decision, Tommy had started moving towards you, his voice raised as he approached, and it was as if something in Billy had snapped, dragging him out of the car before he could reconsider what he was doing.

He'd put himself between the two of you before Tommy could even get his foot on the bottom step, staring him down. "Back off," he uttered, his voice low, bordering on threatening.

"Of course, you're here right now-"

"Don't make me ask again," Billy interrupted, jaw set tight as Tommy glared at him. "Why don't you go inside and cool off, Y/N?" he added quietly, his eyes never leaving your husband, both men refusing to move.

You swallowed down the lump in your throat. "I don't-"

"I'm just going to help Tommy get his stuff in the truck. Once he's left, you can tell me what's been going on, alright?" Billy pressed, only hesitating for a second when he felt your hand reach out to squeeze his for just a moment, before you caved, heading inside.

There was a beat of silence before Tommy finally broke the eye contact, letting out a sharp chuckle. "Should've known you'd be here to pick up the pieces as soon as she called," he muttered. "You've been waiting for this to happen since our wedding day," he pressed, scoffing as he moved to scoop up the discarded clothes from the lawn.

"What'd you do?" Billy started, ignoring Tommy's accusations, still unmoving from his spot at the foot of the porch.

"I didn't do anything," he bit back. "Crazy bitch suddenly started accusing me of sleeping around on her-"

"Were you?"

Tommy looked like he was contemplating his answer, frozen in the middle of the lawn, gripping a garbage bag full of his belongings. "It was one time-"

"So you were cheating on her," Billy interrupted. "Not so crazy then, huh?"

A soft scoff slipped out of Tommy as he shook his head. "How long is it going to take you to make a move? Now that she's kicked me out and you're single, it's all going to fall into place for you guys, right?" His tongue ran over her bottom teeth. "You know, I always thought it was weird that you were so blatantly in love with her since you were the one that introduced us-"

God, perhaps Billy should've been giving Tommy a little more credit. He'd always assumed the guy was a total dumbass, and he'd never been proven wrong until now. Yeah, Billy had introduced you guys after he'd met you at college, but it hadn't been his decision. That had all been Sophia. His girlfriend at the time had been so excited at the prospect of double dates and he couldn't really protest without her realising that he was totally head over heels in love with you. So, he'd let her plan it, even though it had killed him inside. And he'd stood beside Tommy on your wedding day, kicking himself for not just leaving Sophia when he had the chance and telling you the truth.

"Just get your shit together, man," Billy bit out.

*Time Skip*

You'd been curled up on the sofa when Billy had finally come inside, his expression softening when he saw the tears that were still lingering on your cheeks. Sure, Tommy was an asshole. Sure, you wanted him out of your life. But that didn't mean you didn't love him. Hell, the two of you had been together for 5 years, it was always going to be hard to walk away from a relationship like that unscathed.

"Tommy's gone. He's staying with his parents tonight," he started, watching as you immediately tried to wipe away the tears, attempting to hide them from him.

You nodded, clearing your throat slightly. "Thank you," you breathed, sniffling to fight back a fresh wave of tears.

"You going to tell me what happened?"

You bit down on the inside of your cheek for a moment. "He didn't already tell you?"

Billy shrugged slightly, moving to sit down on the couch beside you. "He did, but I want to hear it from you; get both sides of the story."

"He slept with that girl he works with; the one he claimed was just a friend a thousand times over; the one I told you about," you murmured, twisting around to face him fully, your knees pulled up under yourself. "And, you know, maybe I could've been better. I could've been a better wife-"

"Don't you dare," Billy bit at you, silencing your train of thought. "You were far better to him than he deserved."

"But I-"

"But nothing. You loved him and looked after him, and he threw that back in your face. You're incredible and any guy would be lucky to have you as his wife. If he can't see that, then it's on him, not you."

You swallowed down the lump in your throat. "Thank you for being here," you hummed softly, leaning forward to rest your head on his shoulder, as if it was the most natural thing in the world, even though it set his heart racing. "You're such a good friend," you pressed on, and God, it felt like you'd torn Billy's still-beating heart out with your bare hands.

"You're worth being here for," he told you, his voice so soft that it almost sounded like it belonged to someone else.
