A/N - This chapter was inspired by the song bad idea right? by Olivia Rodrigo. It's a bit of a modern take on the story, so mobile phones are included. I hope you all enjoy it.

Hey.

God, you should have known better than to ever open a message from Eddie. I mean, these days they were pretty few and far between, but that didn't make them any harder to ignore. But this message was so open-ended. Hey. Just hey. Nothing more. And God, you'd be lying if you said you weren't a little curious to find out what he wanted.

"Are you coming to dance?" Liv called out to you, already moving around the middle of the living room you'd all ended up in tonight. You were pretty sure it belonged to the parents of some guy from the basketball team, and if it wasn't for your friends, you would never have even considered coming here at all.

"One sec," you told her, your attention straying back to your phone as you half-stumbled towards the back garden, smiling to yourself.

Hey.

It felt like a stupid response, really. So boring and drab in comparison to what some girls would probably come up with. But the second the little dots popped up on your screen, signalling that he was typing again, you had forgotten that you'd even had a second of self-doubt.

What are you up to tonight, Pretty Girl?

This was stupid. Eddie was your ex. There was a reason you had broken up. But right now, you couldn't quite remember what that reason was.

You know the party over on 6th Street?

Your stomach turned over when you saw his reply appear on the screen.

What a coincidence.

You jumped slightly when you felt a hand on your hip, and then your eyes landed on his and you relaxed entirely.

"Hey Baby," he hummed softly, leaving you grinning up at him for a second as his own smile spread across his lips.

That had been the issue with the break-up. The thing that continued to crop up every time you tried to remind yourself that you weren't together anymore. It had all come so easily with Eddie. Hell, he'd never once made you feel uncomfortable or out of place. It just felt right.

"Having fun?"

You nodded slightly, leaning into the warmth of him as he tucked a cigarette between his teeth.

"It's been alright," you confirmed quietly. "Would've been better if I'd got to spend it hanging out with you, though," you added, your tongue darting out to wet your bottom lip when he released a soft chuckle, pulling you closer into his side.

"Yeah?"

You hummed out a soft commitment, your lips turning up when he stubbed his cigarette out on the wall beside you. His hand cupped your cheek, drawing you up towards him, and just as his lips were about to meet yours, you heard Liv come stumbling out into the garden.

"Y/N," she called out, her smile not quite reaching her eyes when she glanced between you and Eddie, causing you to pull back slightly. "I need your help with something."

Eddie let out a soft sigh. "Hey, Liv," he called out, raising his hand in a half-hearted wave as she turned to glare in his direction.

"Olivia," she corrected, not once letting the smile venture back out. "Y/N, come on."

You hesitated for a moment, glancing back up at Eddie for just a second. "Sorry," you uttered softly, untangling yourself from his arm and hurrying into the house after Liv.

It had only been about two minutes before you'd felt Eddie watching you, his eyes lingering on you whilst you were dancing along to some cheesy pop song you knew he hated.

Liv was still mid-lecture whilst you danced together. "You guys broke up; you've got to stop running back to him at every chance you get-"

"I'm not running back to him," you disagreed softly, shaking your head. "I only see him as a friend now-"

Liv snorted with laughter, shaking her head in disbelief. "That the biggest lie you've ever told." She took your hand in hers, forcing you to lock eyes with her. "You can lie to yourself all you want, but I'd rather you didn't lie to me too."

It had taken about an hour for her to wear herself out, finally heading out in search of her boyfriend and leaving you to your own devices with a stern warning to keep away from Eddie. And yet, you still found yourself drifting over to him, almost like you were magnetised. Like it wasn't your fault at all. Like he has some sort of spell over you.

"Liv finally decided to let us hang out, huh?" he teased softly, listening to the soft sigh that slipped out of you at the comment. He and Liv had never gotten on, not even when the two of you were dating. Shit, that was one of the main things that had driven the two of you apart.

"She's trying to look out for me," you reminded him, smiling softly when his hand came to rest on the small of your back, moving you towards him, out of the way of a couple of jocks headed outside to hit up the keg you'd seen earlier in the evening.

"Oh yeah," he agreed softly, using his other hand to knock your chin up, making you look at him. "She's a saint," he hummed, watching as your lips twitched into a small smile.

"She's my best friend."

He hummed, leaning in just close enough that you could feel his breath fanning across your cheeks. "Yeah?"

You let out a soft hum of agreement, your eyes dropping to linger on his lips for just a second too long. And then he was kissing you, and you completely forgot that this was exactly what you weren't supposed to do.

When he pulled away, he kept you tucked against his chest, his chin moving to rest on the top of your head. "I missed you, Pretty Girl," he murmured softly, his hand brushing lightly down your spine.

"Yeah," you hummed out. "I missed you too, Ed."
