Jude's POV

After dinner we walk back to our cabin. We sat on our beds and waited for Bruce and Neil to tell us what we were doing. They go into their little private room. They come back 2 minutes later in their bathing suits.

"Put on your bathing suits," says Bruce. "We're going to the pool!" I change into my bathing suit and wait for everyone else on the porch.

"What are we going to do at the pool," asks Kyle, as soon as everyone is on the porch.

"You'll see," says Neil. We all get up and start walking. Halfway to the pool, I see Ella's cabin group.

"Hi Ella," I say.

"Hey Jude," she says. "Hey Connor. I want to introduce you to some more of my friends. Guys, come here." Ella waves to Myranda and some other girls.

"What's up," asks Myranda.

"I was going to introduce Jude and Connor to the others," says Ella. "This is Taylor, Allison, Kayla, and Jude." She points to each girl as she says their names.

"Another Jude," says Connor. "This is going to get confusing."

"I'm gonna call you Jude 1," says Myranda, pointing at me. "And I'm going to call you Jude 2." She points at Jude.

"Why don't you just call us by our first name and last name," asks Jude.

"I like Jude 1 and Jude 2 better."

"It would be hard to call me by my last initial anyways," I say. "I have 3 last names."

"Jude 1 and Jude 2 it is," says Myranda. We get to the pool and are told to get with our cabin group. The girls are looking around for the rest of their group.

"Over here," calls Alex, their counselor. The girls walk over to Alex, and Connor and I walk over to Neil and Bruce.

Logan, the leader of the whole eighth grade, who is also called a village leader, stands on a stool and tries to get our attention.

"Alright everyone," says Logan. "Today we are going to do some team building activities. One will be out of the water, and the other will be in. The first activity is called The Knot. First form a circle in your group." We all form a circle. "Now, reach across the circle and grab two people's hands. But not the hand of the person next to you." I reach across the circle and grab Kyle's hand and Nick's hand. We were all in a huge knot now. "Now, without letting each others hands go, you have to untangle. First group to get untangled wins."

"Oh no," says Ryan. "This is going to be impossible."

"Let's just get started," says James. "I want to win." We start trying to untangle ourselves. We suck under each other's arms, step over each other's arms, but get nowhere. Eventually, Ella's group gets untangled.

"It's ok," says Neil. "We'll get them in the next game."

"Now," says Logan. "Your group has to make it to the other side of the pool using all 4 items given to you. The pool has been divided into lanes. You will each get a laundry bin, pool noodle, kick boards, and duct tape."

We walk to our lanes. We look at all the items and ponder how we could make these work.

"Who's the smallest," asks Kyle. "We should put the smallest person in the laundry bin."

"Aaron," says James. He was right. Aaron was short and and skinny. He would definitely fit in the bin.

"Maybe we could duct tape the kick board to the noodle and use it like a paddle," says Nick.

"Yeah," says Connor. "We could put Aaron in the bin and he could use the makeshift paddle to get to the other side."

"Let's do this," says Bruce. We start duct taping the kick board and noodle. We have to use a lot because it always seems a little loose. At one point I see Kyle look over Myranda and wink at her. And she winked back!

"What's that about," I ask.

"Nothing," he says, a sly grin on his face.

"OMG!" I exclaim. "You... And... Her! NO! When?! We haven't even been here for 24 hours!"

"We found time."

"I can't even. Let's just get back to working on this paddle." We finish duct taping the kick board and noodle, using almost the whole roll of duct tape. We put the laundry bin in the water, and Aaron climbs in. We hand him the paddle.

"Now that you're all set up," says Logan. "We're going to start. The first cabin that makes it to the other side wins. Everybody get ready. On you marks. Get set. GO!" Aaron starts paddling. We cheer him on and he makes it to the other side first. We all start clapping and cheering.

"We did it," I say to Connor. I really wanted to hug him. But that wasn't a good idea right now.

"Yes we did," says Connor.

"Hey guys," says Ella.

"Hey," I say. "What was your guy's plan for this?"

"Well Myranda was thinking about hitting everyone with the kick boards," says Ella. "Then we'd be the only team to make it to the other side. But we all voted against that. We were running out of time and just through something together."

"Well you guys did pretty good," says Connor. "I mean, you didn't win, but you did good."

"Thanks. Well I better get going. It's time to head back to our cabins. Night."

"Night," I say.

"Come one guys," says Neil. "Time to get ready for bed. "We all head back to our cabin and get ready for bed.

"You have 10 minute to either read, write letters home, or quietly talk," say Neil.

"Come here," says Connor, waving from his bed. I lift up the blanket hanging over his bed and sit down. I close the blanket and look at him.

"This is so cool," I say. "It really is a cave." I give Connor a hug.

"What was that for?"

"I've wanted to do that ever since we won the team building competition."

"Why didn't you?" I just look at him. "Oh. Right. Them."

"Yeah. So, what activities do you want to do?"

"Water skiing, archery, and riflery."

"Same! Wow. We really are perfect for each other."

"Shh," Connor whispers. "We don't want the others to hear."

"Right," I whisper.

"Alright, lights out," says Bruce.

"Night," I say.

"Night," says Connor. He gives me a quick kiss. "I love you."

"I love you too." I move the blanket, get off of Connor's bed, and climb up to my bed.
