Connor's POV

I wake up in the early morning and get dressed. I go out on the porch and wait for everyone else.

"You're up early," says Jude, walking out onto the porch.

"So are you," I point out. He sits down next to me. I look around to make sure no one else is outside. I give Jude a kiss.

"Why can't we just kiss in front of everyone and not be afraid," asks Jude.

"We don't know enough about these people," I say.

"The only person we can be ourselves around is Ella."

"Knowing her she's probably told her whole cabin."

"True."

"Morning," says Kyle, sitting on the bench. "Why you up so early?"

"I'm used to waking up early," I say. "I go jogging every morning."

"I didn't know that," says Jude.

"You do now." Soon, the whole cabin is on the porch. We all walk to the dining hall for breakfast. Jude and I go says hi to Ella and her friends, and sure enough, her whole cabin knows about us.

"Don't worry, we won't tell," says Taylor.

"Yeah," says Allison. "We totally support."

"You two are so cute together," says Kayla.

"Thanks," says Jude.

"We better go eat," says Connor. "See you later." We walk to our table and eat with the rest of our group.

After breakfast, we go back to our cabin. We make our beds and clean up the cabin.

"Assemble the circle," yells Bruce. We sit in a circle in the middle of the room.

"Today we are going to show you the job board" says Neil. "We're also going to make some rules." Bruce and Neil show us the job board. It's a big poster board, with little slots with jobs written on them. We all have a card, which is inside one of the slots. Everyday, our card will move over one, giving us a new job.

Next, we start making the rules. Bruce brings another poster board and a marker.

"Who wants to start," asks Neil.

"Listen to the counselors," says Aaron.

"No hitting, kicking, punching, or name calling," says Nick.

"We sound like girls," says James. "Whenever girls come up with rules, these are always the rules they make."

"That's because they're good rules," says Bruce. "Anyone else."

"Respect each other," I say. I looked at Jude. "Don't make fun of each other." Jude smiles at me.

Jude had been made fun of a lot in school. I knew making that rule would make him feel safe.

"Is that all," asks Bruce. We nod. "Okay. Everyone sign your name." We all sign our name on the poster.

"Now it's time to pick activities," says Neil. "Let me go get the lists. I will give all of you one, and at the bottoms you will write your first, second, and third choice for morning, afternoon, and evening activity." Neil goes to get the lists. He comes back and passes them out. We all go to our beds.

I sit on the bed and close my blanket curtain. I look at all the options. For my first choices I choose water skiing, archery, and sailing. I get up and give my list to Neil.

I go back to my bed and Jude sits next to me. He closes the curtain.

"I still can't get over how cool this is," says Jude.

"I know," I say. "What dos you pick?"

"Water skiing, archery and sailing."

"Same!"

"Boys," says Bruce. "Put on your bathing suits. We're going to the lake."

We get up and change into our bathing suits. Jude and I are that first ones changed, so we go out on the porch.

"Wow," says Jude.

"What," says Connor.

"Have you gotten more muscular? Is it even possible for you to get more muscular?"

"I guess so."

"Let's go," says Neil, waking out of the cabin, followed by everyone else. We walk to lake and see all the other 8th grade groups.

"Let's swim," I say. I jump into the lake, followed by Jude. We swim to a giant trampoline in the middle of the lake. We climb on and jump.

"I'm going to see hi to Ella," says Jude. He jumps off the trampoline and swims towards Ella. I jump on the trampoline and talk with the other boys. Suddenly, I hear yelling! It sounds like Jude!
