Evan's POV

My first day at a new school! I'm so nervous. I've been going to the same school since kindergarten. Then my dad's job moved us here, and I had to leave all my friends. Then again, they weren't exactly the best people.

There was this boy at my old school who can out gay. My friends and I were the more popular and sporty types of guys. My friends started picking on the kid for being gay. I didn't pick on him, but I also didn't do anything to stop my friends from picking on him.

Then, a couple months ago, my sister made me go shopping with her. I thought it would be super boring, but it actually turned out to be a lot of fun. And I ended up knowing what looked good on her better than she did.

I also got my first girlfriend around this time. We went out for a while, but I started to realize I didn't really like her. Or any girls for that matter. It's at that time I started realizing I was gay.

Of course, I didn't tell my friends. I was one of the most popular kids in school. I wasn't going to give that up. And that meant if I wanted to go shopping with my sister, I would have to do it on days when I knew my friends wouldn't be at the mall.

But now I'm in a new state, a new school, a place where no one knows what my socials status was. Because if they knew I was popular, they'd expect me to become popular here. And for once I just want to be myself.

"Hey Olivia, hey Evan," I hear someone yell. I turn around and see Jude running towards us, followed by Connor.

"Hey guys," says Olivia.

"You excited for the first day," asks Connor.

"Yeah," I say. "Nervous too."

"I was also nervous on my first day," says Jude. "Hey, did you tell your parents?"

"Yea. They were cool with it."

"That's good," says Jude. "Well let's go inside. We have to go to some back to school assembly."

We walk inside and I see Jude. And Connor hold hands. Aren't they worried about someone picking on them? I sure would be.

Connor's POV

Jude, Evan, Olivia, and I walk into the gym and sit down next to Taylor.

"Hey," she says.

"Hey," says Olivia.

"You ready for the first day of 8th grade."

"As ready as I'll ever be."

" Can I ask you two a question," asks Evan, gesturing to me and Jude.

"Yeah, anything," says Jude.

"When you walked into school, I noticed you were holding hands. First, I didn't know you guys were a thing, but you're cute together. Second, how are you so open at school? Aren't you worried about getting picked on?"

"Not really," I say." Everyone here is pretty accepting. Considering the fact that the vice-principal is lesbian, I don't think anyone would even try picking on someone because they were gay."

"I also think the fact the the vice-principal is my mom helps," says Jude.

"You're moms the vice-principal," says Evan. "Wow. Remind me not to cross you."

"Could everyone please quite down," asks Principal Porter. Everyone stops talking and listens to what she has to say. "Thank you. Welcome to 8th grade! We have so many fun things planned for you this year! Starting with the Back to School Dance this Friday! So don't forget to get a date and buy some tickets!

"You will all have the same lockers this year," continues Principal Porter. "For those of you who are new your lockers will be assigned to you. You will find your schedules in your lockers. Your teachers have some fun activities planned for your first week. That's the end of the assembly. Go have fun!"

Everyone stands up and rushed to their lockers. Jude and I run to our lockers, eager to see what classes we have together.

"Let me see your schedule," says Jude. I hand him my schedule and compares our schedules. "Cool. We have almost every class together except I have health first quarter and you have it second quarter."

"8th grade health," I say. "That's one thing I'm not looking forward to. 8th grade health is the year we leave about..."

"Yeah I got it," Jude interrupts.

"What home room are you guys in," asks Jeremy.

"Mrs. Morris," I say.

"Mr. Johnson," says Jeremy. "I better get to class. See you at lunch."

"Bye," says Jude.

Jude and I get our stuff and walk to class. We walk in and see Olivia sitting next to a group of girls.

"Hey guys," she says.

"Hey Olivia," says Jude. "Looks like you're making friends fast."

"Yeah," Olivia says. "This school is pretty cool. Much better than my old one. And it's right on the beach!"

"Yeah," says Connor. "That's my favorite part of this school."

"Alright class take your seats," says Mrs. Morris. "We've got a long year ahead of us, and lots to learn. So let's get started!"
