Sarah Davis sits in her dressing area watching in the mirror as her usual team of hair and makeup people do their thing and ensure that she will be photo and video perfect looking from every possible angle. She is already fighting her nerves and the flurry of activity around her isn't helping her to remain calm and mentally rehearse her acceptance speeches. It's a huge night for her as it's expected that during the evening's award show she'll become the first female singer ever to claim the "Newcomer of the Year," "Artist of the Year," "Single of the Year," and "Duet of the Year" awards all at the same time. Her debut album, "It's Been a Slice" with its hit singles, "Shooting Daggers" and "Through The Heart, featuring Scruffy D." had been climbing the charts since it's release at the beginning of the previous year.
After years of hard work, playing and singing at every open mic night and way too many dive bars across the United States, Sarah was finally able to catch her big break by auditioning and appearing as a contestant on the television show, "Impress USA." Capturing the hearts of the judges, crowd and worldwide viewing audience with her story, angelic voice and cover girl looks, she went on to win the competition by a landslide and was immediately signed to her first contract with a record label. During the weeks which followed the competition she was given a makeover by the label as well as a new stage name. Gone was the girl next door look and her generic sounding name and look and out stepped Selena Dagger, in her place.
In the year that followed the competition she toured with some of her fellow competitors, now performing under her new name and identity promoting the show through out the United States and even making a few stops in the European market. During their down time, she was kept busy in the rehearsal hall and recording studio laying down the tracks that would become her first full album.
Upon noticing that she and one of her fellow top ten finalists from Impress USA, Dave Morris had chemistry, preformed well together and looked even better beside each other, the powers that be proclaimed that they were to be a couple and work together to promote each other.
Sarah and Dave got along well and soon what had originally been meant as a relationship for publicity purposes became a very real one between the two of them. As they bounced from city to city and venue to venue, they discussed their futures together and she truly believed that eventually, they would become engaged, get married and maybe even have a couple of kids together.
But as Sarah's star continued to rise, the same could not be said for Dave's; in fact, he was left to play the supporting role of her ever dotting boyfriend in front of the cameras and microphones as his first album was met with less than glowing reviews.
It was while Sarah was filming a guest spot on a TV show and Dave left watching from the sidelines that he finally had enough and walked away. Lucy, a woman who'd been hired as Sarah's personal assistant and had quickly become one of her closest friends went after him, knowing that his disappearance wouldn't sit well with Sarah. After catching up to him, they began talking, soon just talking gave way to more and a relationship formed between the two and behind Sarah's back.
With Scruffy D being under contract and heavily promoted as Selena's boyfriend and the inspiration for several of the songs on her upcoming album, the timing wasn't right for Dave and Lucy's relationship to be unmasked and they continued to keep things on the down-low as Dave continued to play his part.
Down the hall, Dave and Lucy have been spending time together while Sarah's room has been a hub of activity.
"Babe, c'mon we need to go. Our absence is going to be noticed and questioned anytime. You need to be with her to make the walk out to the car and be seen on the red carpet with her."
Dave pulls Lucy in and kisses her, "She's not the one I want to be with; I love you, Luce."
"I love you, too, but right now it's time for you to go." Lucy hands him two ties. "What are these for?"
