Knock ... knock

Knowing that Sarah is sleeping after finally coming down from everything that happened in North Carolina, Abby gets up from the couch where she enjoying a fresh cup and answers the door.

"Hello? Can I help you?"

An older woman smiles as Abby. "You must be Abby."

"I am and I'm sorry, you are?"

"Dolly, I live at the end of the hall." She passes Abby over a handful of envelopes and a small box. "Sarah told me that she was going to be out of town for a few days and asked that I gather any mail and or packages that may arrive in the meantime for her."

"Thank you; I'll make sure that she gets them when she wakes up."

"How is she doing? I ran into that lovely new assistant of hers in the elevator the other day and he mentioned that she was back home dealing with some family stuff. I hope everyone's okay; I know it's been difficult on her not being able to see her parents as frequently as she'd like. I know everything, dear. Sarah and I quite often get together for gab sessions, tea and baked goods."

Abby chuckles. "You're the one who left the basket of muffins at the door."

Dolly smiles and nods. " I am."

"They're fantastic! I just devoured two of them! Did you want to come in?"

"I shouldn't, as I'm sure that you're busy."

Abby shrugs, "I was just enjoying some coffee and muffins while Sarah sleeps. You're more than welcome to join me."

Dolly smiles and nods. "I'd like that. It'll give me a chance to get to know you; even though I feel as though I already do. Sarah is a wonderful woman and she speaks very highly of you."

Abby smiles and nods. "She is." Abby opens the door and lets Dolly inside, setting the mail down on the table. "Coffee?"

"That would be lovely."

Abby and Dolly chat and get to know each other better while Sarah continues to saw logs upstairs. Soon Dolly heads out for an appointment and Abby can't help but smile thinking about Sarah's neighbour and how the two of them have basically formed their own family.

Not wanting her girl to sleep the entire day away, Abby gets to work on making the two of them lunch before carrying it up on a tray and delivering it to the bedroom. Leaning over she kisses Sarah's lips. "Time to wake up."

"You smell like blueberries."

Abby chuckles. "I just had a long chat with Dolly about you."

"Dolly was here? Did you thank her for the muffins?"

"I did. How is it that I'm just now meeting your floor bestie?"

Sarah laughs. "Best kept secret of this building. She's a hoot, isn't she?"

Abby nods and laughs. "She is."

"Did she tell you all about the celebrities she's met over the years and the almost affairs?"

Abby nods. "Also, about her husband and best friend."

Sarah smiles. "I think that's why she has a soft spot for me; she was born and grew up in a day when it wasn't acceptable to be anything but straight, married and knocked up before you hit 20."

"I made us lunch or in your case, brunch."

"It's that late?"

Abby nods. "You looked peaceful and I didn't want to disturb you."
