Walking in to her apartment, Sarah collapses on the couch and lets out an exaggerated moan and groan causing Abby to burst out laughing.
"Such a drama queen, Ms. Dagger."
Sarah smiles and sits up, patting the spot beside her. Abby sets down her bag, walks over to the couch and leans in to her girlfriend's embrace. Sarah kisses her forehead. "I'm exhausted, but in a good way this time."
Abby smiles. "I'm glad you had fun."
"I didn't know there was so many steps involved in creating the perfect organic olive oil."
Abby smiles and nods. "My family are really proud of the farm and Andy and River are really hoping to be able to expand their acreage soon to produce more."
"I'm sure I have a few connections that could help make that happen. Say the word and I'll make the call."
Abby smiles and shakes her head. "They want to do it themselves and are concerned if they expand too quickly the quality will suffer."
Sarah smiles. "I get that. Can I ask you something, Abs?"
"Of course."
"I noticed you and them having a discussion and looking at me; I'm going to assume that us being together didn't exactly go over well with them, huh?"
"Actually, they really like you and River is a huge fan of your music. They were concerned about our relationship and the circumstances around it."
"Circumstances?"
"Basically, they wanted to know if I was sure about you and my feelings towards you. They were concerned that perhaps I was making a rash decision after breaking up with Aaron and or that perhaps you were using me. Not to mention in the public eye, you're still very much with Dave. You don't need to worry I set them straight, let them know I was of sound mind and judgement and that you'd never pressured me into anything. Also, I may have let it out that you and Dave we no longer together, but that it wasn't public knowledge yet."
Sarah nods. "Is it because I'm a woman, they're more hesitant to accept us being together? or more out of concern that you've already moved on and are dating someone new after the breakup?"
"You being a woman is definitely part of it, but also, the concern is more centred around the affect our relationship becoming public knowledge could have on both of our careers. I've always kind of had the whole good girl image thing working for me and they're are still plenty with influence who look down upon individuals in non-traditional relationships."
Sarah nods. "That's completely understandable. You're lucky to have family looking out for you. I hope you reassured them, that everything was on the up and up, that no one was using anyone, neither of us were each other's rebound, what we have is genuine and that we would deal with whatever comes together."
Abby leans over and kisses Sarah, smiling as she does. "I told them that you're an amazing person who's given me more in the short time we've been together than Aaron or Max ever did and that they better get used to the idea of having you around because I'm falling in love with you." Abby can see tears forming in Sarah's eyes as she takes in what she's just heard.
Ring ... ring ... ring
Sarah looks at Abby and then digs through her bag to locate her phone. "It better damn well be important, Tanner."
"Someone's grumpy. I thought time away with your girl would have loosened you up a little."
"Tanner, you're on speaker and interrupting; what is so important that you needed to call at this time of the night?"
