Chapter 28

Team 7 and Tazuna were heading for the bridge, save for Naruto, whom they left to sleep in. Halfway into the journey, Yuma stopped.

"Hey, Kashi," she said, causing the others to pause and look back at her curiously. "I... Forgot something at the house. I'll catch up."

"Oh, you want me to go with you?" Kakashi asked.

"No," replied Yuma. "I've got it. I'll be right back."

She ran off, not giving him time to reply.

Kakashi sighed, scratching the back of his neck. "I wonder what she forgot that was so important...."

In truth, Yuma hadn't forgotten anything. She'd had a bad feeling that something was wrong, and her instincts told her to hurry back to the house. And so she did, running as fast as she could until she ran into Naruto.

Literally.

The two landed on the slaughtered body of a very cut-up bore and looked at each other.

"We better hurry," Naruto said, frowning slightly.

"Yeah," Yuma nodded. And the two took off once again. As they they ran, Yuma looked at Naruto. "Naru-chan, when we get there, you take care of Inari and Tsuname."

"Hai, Yu-chan," he agreed.

They appeared on the porch, and Yuma knocked two thugs away from Tsuname as Naruto grabbed her and Inari and took them inside. Yuma faced the two nin, grinning creepily as she cracked her knuckles.

Moving fast, she grabbed a kunai and lunged at the nearest man, who barely saw the flash of dark grey. His partner drew his swords, let out a cry of rage, and tried to assist the screaming, struggling man at Yuma's mercy.

Yet he wasn't fast enough, for by the time he was upon them, his partner was dead, silent, mouth open and blood filled and both eyes pierced by kunais as blood left the corners of his eyes.

"You bitch!" He shouted, swiping at the girl before him.

Turning swiftly, Yuma stopped both blades with a couple of kunai.

"Too slow~!" She sang, giggling slightly as the man stared in shocked disbelief. He jumped back as she kicked him square on the chest.

The man's katana landed nearly ten feet from his body as he landed on his back, watching helplessly as the blood splattered girl rose to her feet, swaying and giggling.

"G-Get away from me!" He shouted, scrambling back as she drew nearer.

She just giggled again and kept approaching. The man shut his eyes tightly and took a deep breath.

This can't be happening, the man thought frantically. Murdered by some brat?!

He shook his head and reopened his eyes, yet Yuma was gone. Or was she?

"Boo," she whispered from right behind him.

He screamed, only to be cut off as a kunai pierced through his neck from behind. Yuma stood, wiping her bloodied hands on her dress, and roughly kicked the two nins bodies into the river.

"I didn't have time to play with you guys," she pouted. "But don't worry, I had fun anyways!"

"Y-Yuma-chan..." Naruto stuttered, cautiously sticking his head from the house. He recoiled at the sight of the bloody deck and his even bloodier teammate, yet said nothing more than, "We should hurry back to the others..."

Yuma clicked her heels together, saluting him with a lopsided grin. "Aye aye, Cap'n!"

Meanwhile, at the bridge, things weren't going as smoothly. Sakura was doing her best to keep Tazuna out of the crossfire, Kakashi was trapped in a one-on-one with Zabuza, unable to assist Sasuke, who was trapped in Haku's Ice Mirror Jutsu.
