It began with Gaara; him losing control of his tailed beast. Then, civilians began drooping in their seats and collapsing to the floor, unconscious. Next, Sound and Sand shinobi alike began to attack the Leaf shinobi and anyone who tried to aid them.
Yuma shot upward, going to rush away and help as most of her friends fell under the jutsu, but her hand was seized, and she turned to stare at Shikamaru with wide eyes.
"Shika... I-"
She was silenced with a gasp as he stood, pulling her quickly into his chest, out of the way of an enemy ninja and into his arms.
"I'll take care of the others," he promised. "Do what you need to do, but be safe."
Smiling softly, she lifted her hand to his cheek and pulled him down, gently pressing her lips to his.
"I'll see you after this mess is over," she whispered before spinning away, slashing the throat of an attacking Sand ninja and making quick work of any others in the immediate area before cutting a path to the Hokage's Box.
Upon arriving, she found nothing more than Raido, bleeding heavily on the floor, gasping like a fish out of water.
His eyes snapped to her, widening as a terrifying thought crossed his mind. He failed to protect the Hokage- what would the lethal child do to him?
He watched her approach, and kneel next to him, with wide eyes and a pale face, which only grew paler by the moment the more blood he lost.
"Who did this to you?" She asked, her voice soft and uncharacteristically gentle as she carefully added pressure to the worst wound, a large gash on his leg.
Swallowing his shock and pain, he answered to the best of his ability. "Ka... Kaze...ka..ge..." he gasped.
Her expression darkened, and for a moment he was worried she'd finish him off.
"Hang in there," she simply requested, reaching into a pouch and grabbing some gauze and bandaging. "I'll patch you up as best I can, and send help soon."
The man's eyes glimmered with sorrow, knowing how badly the girl had to fight herself not to go and fight, to help him.
"I... I'm sorry..." he panted as she set to work on his worse wounds. "I... failed..."
To his surprise, she smiled softly, releasing a sad, airy laugh. "Look at you, beat up, bleeding out on the floor, and claiming you failed. Looks to me that you fought to the best of your ability, and that's hardly something to apologize for."
He was shocked. How was it that this girl, who constantly acted so childish and often times gave out an air of hostility and cruelty, could manage to be so kind and compassionate?
"I'll send help," Yuma promised as she stood, task completed. "Just don't die before it gets here, kay? I'll kick your ass if you do!" She grinned playfully, leaning him up in a corner so he could see anyone who entered, and hopefully defend himself until reinforcements arrived.
She left, and Raido heard cries of agony follow her exit even after the door shut behind her.
That girl would fight til her death, and surely give the enemy hell while she did.
After waking and alerting a few nearby medic nin, Yuma took off to help evacuate civilians and kick enemy butt. With a kunai in each palm, she flashed in and out of sight, leaving behind only blood, bodies, and blurry after-images of herself. Within a half hour, she had a quarter of the arena cleared, and began waking and ushering the civilians.
"Come on, come on," she directed, eyes sharp as she made sure none were about to be attacked.
Her rust colored gaze locked onto a dark blur rushing at a nobleman, and flashed out of sight, reappearing before the enemy seconds before the metallic sound of her kunai locking with their short sword.
"I wouldn't recommend it," she giggled, and a moment later, their head fell to the ground. "Hurry!" She called to the stunned, horrified people she was attempting to save.
They jolted to attention, rushing forward and almost tripping over one another.
Yuma nodded to Genma, who met the group at the arena gates and locked eyes with her, silently offering to take them further so she could continue here. She nodded, and he took over, calling orders over the commotion as Yuma turned to assess the situation.
"Yuma-chan!"
She turned, and smiled in relief as her team and a select few approached her.
"We're going after Sasuke and Gaara," the blonde hyperactive boy explained. "Are you in?"
Yuma had to bite her lip at the decision as her eyes skimmed over the assembled team. Satisfied with what she saw, she smiled apologetically.
"I'm needed here," she replied, throwing her hand out and piercing the neck of an enemy nin that was attacking nearby civilians. "Im trusting you guys to bring Sasuke back safe, and try not to die, kay guys?"
The team nodded, understanding, and dispersed.
Yuma took off into the fray once again, worry plaguing her heart, but determination shining in her eyes.
My friends, my family, be safe, please return to me in one piece.
