After the academy three days later, Iruka told the class that the genin exams would be held the next day. The students filed out, Yuma last, as usual. Though, today, something new happened.

"Yuma-chan, could you come here a moment?" Iruka asked, the only one who didn't avoid her during academy. The other children wisely stayed as far away from her as possible, though she had definately caught the attention of the class, particularly the Uzamaki and Uchiha boys.

"Hai, Iruka-sensei?" Yuma grinned.

Iruka knew the child was mentally unstable, knew she would murder him if she were allowed, knew that her mind revolved around the pain of others. However, the first day she had joined his class, afterwards Kakashi had told him of how he suspected Yuma had only killed her entire village to keep from being sacrificed. After hearing this, he couldn't bring himself to hate her, not at all. He could only pity her, for, like Naruto and Sasuke, she was all alone.

"You don't have to take the exam tomorrow, Yuma-chan," Iruka said kindly. "If you're nervous, you could wait a while and then take it."

"No," Yuma grinned. "I'm sure I can pass, Bakashi has been helping me study and practice!"

"Ah, I see, so do you like living with Kakashi?" Iruka asked.

"Like?" Yuri repeated curiously. She looked extremely confused as she thought about it. "I.... I don't know...." She muttered. Turning her back on a shocked Iruka, she skipped out the door, singing a song she sang alot.

"Eight kill points on a weaklings body, eight fun ways to end a life. If I choose one ill have to get a new victim. To practice all eight kill points, until I get them perfectly right!"

She left the room, singing happily, and Iruka decided not to ask questions anymore.

Yuma skipped down the street as people stared at her, whispering harshly to their companions. Yuri had heard every word.

"Look at her, the monster."

"I've heard she murdered her entire village."

"Why would the hokage allow that beast to run free?"

She ignored them. After all, she had a long way to go towards Kakashi's home, which was nearly in the middle of nowhere. She passed through all the shops, the park, and the playground when she came to a stop at a field, staring curiously at a tree. Well, not the tree, exactly, but the boy laying under it. He was the Nara kid from her class.

"Oi, stupid," she called walking over to where he slept. "What're you doing sleeping outside?"

She saw that his throat was fully exposed, vulnerable even. She had to remember her promise to grampa Saru and swallow hard to stop herself from taking her kunai and using on his smooth, lightly tanned skin. She squatted next to him and lightly poked his cheek.

His eyes fluttered and slowly focused on her. "Eh? You're the new girl at the academy. Yuma, right?"

Shikamaru had no clue what the new girl was doing at his favorite relaxing spot, but he didn't wonder on that too much as his mind wandered back to the first day she showed up. The warning from that jonnin, her soft giggle as she entered the room, her threatening Kiba, yet looking like an Angel in the process.

"Yeah," Yuma said, slightly surprised he had known her name, considering all he did in class was sleep.

"What're you doing here?" He continued, yawning as he sat up.

"I was on my way home. Why're you sleeping out here? You could've died."

"You said yourself you wouldn't kill us," Shikamaru pointed out. "Besides, how was I supposed to know you'd be going by here?"

"You have a good point, I won't kill you," Yuma agreed. "Maiming however, is fair game," she giggled.

Shikamaru blinked. "Then why didn't you maim me?"

Yuma stared at him curiously. "I think it's my turn to ask a question."

"Alright," sighed Shikamaru. "What?"

"Why don't you avoid me like the others? Why didn't you leave like the others would once you saw me?"

Shikamaru hummed and laid back. "Technically thats two questions, but ill go ahead and answer. I guess you're just not very threatening to me. I mean, you're pretty cool when you aren't all blood thirsty. So I have a question now."

"You want to know why I didn't maim you?"

"No, forget that one. I want to know if it's true that you murdered your whole village."

"Yeah, I did!" Yuma said brightly.

"Why?" Shikamaru asked.

"Ah ah ah~ it's my turn to ask a question."

"Alright."

"Um..... Has your hair always been that spikey?"

Shikamaru blinked. "Er, yeah. So why did you kill your whole village?"

He noticed that Yuma seemed slightly depressed as she looked up at the foliage of the tree.

"Er, well, they tried to sacrifice me to the rain gods," she mumbled. "Our village hadn't had any rain for years, the crops were dead, people were starving and dehydrated. Then the village medicine man said to sacrifice the 'child with eyes of a demon and hair of ash!'. So the night before," Yuma paused, and through his shock, Shikamaru saw a wide grin overtake her features. "I slaughtered them like the animals they were!"

Shikamaru stared at her, and her creepy smile. He felt sad for her, that her village had messed her brain up so bad that she had turned psychotic. And now here she was, in a new village filled with people that resented her for protecting herself, not a single friend.

"Hey, Yuma, why don't you hang with me for a while?" He asked, not even knowing what he had said until it passed his lips.

Yuma looked down at him in shock. "What? You're not scared that I'll murder you while you sleep?"

Shikamaru grinned and patted the ground beside him. "Naw, come on. You'll find a nap does wonders for a mind."

Yuma beamed at him and sat beside him. She sat down her bag and turned facing him as he faced the sky, resting her head on his arm, tangling her fingers in the cloth of his jacket. Slowly, her eyes began to drift shut.

"You're really nice, Shika-kun," she whispered, her voice fading away until all Shikamaru could hear was her soft breathing mixing with his own. He found himself even more comfortable than usual as he shut his eyes and drifted off himself.
