Plot: Sans gets sick and attempts to hide it from his brother, but he can't hide anything from Papyrus for too long

~☆~

Sans slowly opens his eye sockets, the morning sun peaking through his windows and the birds chirping a cheerful tune. Initially the skeleton thought that this was going to be a normal day, but as soon as he sat up, he realized it was going to be anything but.

His bones felt achy, and his arms shook a little under his weight as he pushed himself up. A headache made itself known by pounding against his skull, making him want to just lay back down and never sit back up, and due to this newer form of exhaustion, that didn't sound like a bad idea. He didn't want to admit it to himself, but he was sick.

Lately it wasn't uncommon for monsters to get sick since they moved to the surface, after all, they were being exposed to all sorts of new environmental changes. Even Papyrus got sick a few weeks ago because of it. But Sans didn't want to be sick, he felt too vulnerable, and he didn't want to put anymore stress onto Papyrus than he needed to.

"Sans! Are you awake yet?" Papyrus asked from the other side of Sans' bedroom door, startling the skeleton.

Sans sighed, "Yeah, I'm up bro. Gimme a minute to get dressed," he managed to say, his voice hoarse. He hoped that Papyrus didn't notice.

"Alright, I made some breakfast for you! Once you come down we can eat and then go run some errands together!"

Sans smiled, recalling the day where he agreed that he would try to do more things instead of just sleeping all day. And it was nice, running errands with Papyrus and doing more. But today was when Sans really wished he could have a lazy day.

He struggled slightly to move about his slightly cleaner room, getting dressed and putting his sneakers on before carefully making his way downstairs to meet up with Papyrus. He put on his best face and hoped that whatever happened, Papyrus wouldn't notice.

"Mornin' Pap," Sans said, cringing internally at the sound of his own voice.

This caught the attention of the other skeleton, who quickly turned around and put down the plate of food so he could put his full attention on his brother.

"Are you alright, Sans? What happened to your voice?" Papyrus asked, picking Sans up to study him closer. "It sounds very hoarse."

"Awe c'mon, Pap, quit hoarse-ing around, I'm fine," Sans chuckled a bit at his own joke.

Papyrus groaned and put his brother down, "I told you! No puns this early in the morning!"

"First I'm hearing of it."

"Sans!" Papyrus groaned, before sighing and leading Sans over to the table. "Eat your breakfast and then we can go."

Sans smiled and looked at the plate of food. Yeah no, food was definitely not a option today. The thought of eating anything just made him feel worse. "Um, I'm actually good, Pap. Not hungry."

Papyrus looked at Sans with confusion, "Okay now I know something is wrong, you never skip meals unless something is wrong."

Sans mentally groaned, cursing the universe for making his brother so observant of everything having to do with him. "Nothing is wrong, bro, let's just go. We can get a head start on your errands."

"Now wait just a moment, Sans. Surly you don't think that you can fool me, nothing can get past The Great Papyrus, especially if it has something to do with his brother."

Sans sighed and diverted his eyes to the floor, though that didn't stop Papyrus from inspecting his head to make sure that nothing was hurt. And upon checking his HP, nothing was wrong there either. This stumped Papyrus more than he would have liked to admit.

"Sans, just tell me what's wrong. Please, I just want to help you, brother," Papyrus said, knowing that Sans couldn't hide it after his desperate plea's.

Sans felt the guilt of hiding it eating away at his soul, and the sickness was only worsening at this point, so the idea of Papyrus not making him go with him was very appealing. Still, how would Papyrus react? Would he be angry or annoyed with Sans because of the sickness? Would he not care? No, it's Papyrus, he loves Sans too much to do that to him.

Sans sighed and moved Papyrus' hands away from his face, "Okay okay, I'm just not feeling the greatest right now."

"Oh dear! Sans are you sick? Why didn't you say something earlier? How long have you been hiding this?" Papyrus rambled, causing Sans' head to pound.

"Slow down a bit, Pap, my skull is killing me. I woke up feeling like this, and I didn't say anything because I thought I would be fine. So yes, I assume I'm sick." Papyrus gently picked Sans up, carefully walking upstairs with his brother cradled in his arms. "Woah, okay where are we going?"

"I'm taking you back to bed, what kind of brother would I be if I didn't help you get better? After all, The Great Papyrus is the best nurse ever!"

Sans chuckled, "you're right. Thanks, bro."

Papyrus smiled happily and opened Sans' bedroom door, "you see, this I why you're sick. You live in squalor!"

"Hey, I cleaned it a bit."

"Yet there are still dirty socks all over the floor!" Papyrus sighed and set his brother down on the bed, "however, I will have mercy on you and spare you from my lectures. We have to focus on getting you better!"

Sans leaned back until his head hit the pillow, closing his eyes and sighing with contentment. Relaxing for once instead of trying so hard to hide everything was nice.

When he opened his eyes again, Papyrus was digging through his clothes, tossing him a pair of sleep pants and a hoodie.

"Now, you will get changed into those, and I will pick up all of your dirty clothes! Because I'm such a great brother, I will wash them for you! And you-"

"I know, I'll keep my room clean from now on."

Papyrus smiled and turned away to allow Sans to change. In the meantime, he could always start picking up his brothers clothes.

Once Sans was done changing, Papyrus turned around and wrapped Sans up in one of his blankets so he could be a skeleton burrito. He then picked up said burrito and brought him down the stairs so he could place him on the couch.

"I'll get you some medicine and food! Just take it easy today, brother, do what your best at!"

Sans chuckled, "and what am I best at, Pap?"

Papyrus smiled and patted Sans' head, "doing absolutely nothing!"

Once Papyrus got everything set up for Sans to be comfortable, he decided to do things around the house instead of leaving, despite the fact that Sans would feel bad if he stayed instead of going out an doing what he planned. But he had things he could do around the house too!

Though that was just how Sans was when stuff like this happened, he would feel guilty and responsible for Papyrus' change in schedule. Papyrus wished he wouldn't, because it wasn't his fault, yet he knew that it would take a long time before Sans would stop having those thoughts.

Papyrus moved about the house cleaning and putting things away, mostly in his brother's room as a surprise. And in the meantime, Sans was slowly drifting off into a feverish sleep as he watched his favorite human show.

Papyrus finished his chores in a very short amount of time and decided to check in on his brother, and was happy when he saw that Sans ate a bit and took the medicine he left for him. He never thought he would be so relieved to see Sans sleeping the day away, but here he was, gently pulling the blanket up his brothers torso up to his chin.

"Rest well brother," he whispered, lovingly rubbing the top of Sans' skull before walking away to finish picking up the rest of Sans' socks.
