"Daddy! You're home!" A young skeleton said, jumping into his father's arms. Quickly, Gaster put his bag down to catch his son.

"Hello Papyrus, sorry that I'm late. Where is your brother?" Gaster asked, placing Papyrus down onto the floor.

"Sans is doing homework or something. He already made dinner for us!"

"Did he now?" Gaster asked, not particularly surprised. Sans was always good to take care of his brother whenever Gaster had a late night at the lab. "Well I'll have to try some."

Papyrus smiled, "I'll go get Sans!" He said, rushing off upstairs to get his brother.

Gaster sighed with relief, glad to be home. This was the highlight of his life. Despite the fact that both of his sons were still quite young, Papyrus being four and Sans being ten, he still managed to find time for himself and his sons. They were never a cause of stress in his life.

Soon, the two skeletons came down the stairs. Papyrus was still in a bubbly mood and Sans seemed quite tired, yet still wore a smile on his face.

"Hey Dad! I made grilled cheese for us," Sans said, already moving to grab the plate of food and the drink he had prepared for his father.

Gaster smiled and took the items from Sans, placing them down on the table, "Thank you Sans, I will eat it later. Now, it is late and is time for bed."

Judging by their appearances, both boys were already ready for bed and made their way upstairs with Gaster following close behind. He read them a story and smiled to himself when Sans and Papyrus fell asleep snuggled close to each other. He loved his sons, they were his whole world.

The memory quickly faded, however, when Gaster opened his eyes. Just a dream, a mere memory of how things used to be only weeks before his unfortunate disappearance. When he awoke to find himself here, he was absolutely crushed, as if his existence was ripped away from him in an instant.

He found out quickly that he could watch his sons from a strange monitor that he discovered, and of course he was absolutely crushed by the sight. Sans and Papyrus were alone and scared, and his disappearance left Sans to care for his brother the same way a father would.

Years went by, Gaster was never mentioned again in the household which eventually lead to Papyrus forgetting his father's existence. However, Sans remembered it all. The game nights, the stories, the time he helped in the lab. His childhood as a whole was ripped away from him within a night. It wasn't fair, and oh how he suffered mentally. The hardships, the stress, all of his efforts to continue his and Papyrus' life as normal took a toll on the boy after a while.

Gaster struggled to watch Sans as the years went by, especially when the young skeleton began to fall deeper into his depression. Many times Gaster had wished that Sans would seek the help and comfort of his brother, but the anxiety that he developed shortly after prevented him from doing so. He suffered in silence, and while Papyrus was out living the life Sans had always wanted for him, he stayed in his room and suffered further. He cried, slept his days away, and even began to cut himself after a few years of struggling. Gaster had seen enough and could no longer watch those moments.
