In today's trending news, we all know that our fellow Filipino Mary Jane Veloso suffered from a 'supposed to be death penalty.' But what is her sin to suffer from the death penalty? What are the crimes that lead to the death penalty? And what is really a death penalty?
The death penalty is a punishment by death. It is practiced by most countries, in the past, as a punishment of criminals, political or religious dissidents. Historically, the carrying out of the death penalty was often accompanied by torture and execution, most often in public.
In most countries, it is reserved for murder, espionage,or as part of military justice. In some countries, sexual crimes such as rape, adultery, incest and sodomy carry the death penalty. Human trafficking and drug trafficking (MJ Veloso's case) are also capital crimes.
Countries that practice death penalty are China, North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, US, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Vietnam, Malaysia, India, Bangladesh. Indonesia also practice death penalty where MJ Veloso had her case. Some countries don't practice death penalty because it is frequently argued that death penalty leads to miscarriage of justice through the wrongful execution of innocent persons. Many people have been proclaimed innocent victims. Good thing MJ Veloso doesn't suffer from the death penalty because is she is, she'll be one of the pathetic innocent victims of the said penalty.
Christians do not agree with death penalty. They see it as a form of revenge and as contrary to Christ's message of forgiveness. Also, they vary on the sixth commandment of God, "Thou shalt not kill."
How about you? What's your take about the death penalty? We all have different opinions. But as for our fellow Filipinos, let's pray for them, for they're suffering from crimes wherein they were innocents. Let us all pray, and hope that love and peace must be in all everyone's heart.
