This poem is about someone who feels like they are always the second choice and the fat funny friend. They feel like they are never loved, cherished, trusted, seen or cared for by anyone. They have low self-esteem and no hope for the future.

I'm always the second choice

The one they don't love back

When their first love leaves them cold

And they need someone to fill the gap

I'm always the fat funny friend

The one who hides their pain

But never the one they cherish

Or want to see again

I'm always the loyal listener

The one who nods and smiles

But never the one they trust

Or want to stay a while

I'm always the shadow in the crowd

The one who goes unseen

But never the one who shines

Or has a chance to dream

I'm always the second choice

The one they don't care for

And I know I'll never find someone

Who'll make me feel like more.
