A week went by, with no word from the clinic. Sharon was getting a little concerned, it was taking a while for them to give them the results. Why don't you phone them? said Nick over coffee and breakfast one morning at the coffee shop. I can tell it's killing you not knowing, what's happening. Well it's been ages said Sharon. It's been a week! said Nick sarcastically. No need to say it like that said Sharon. I'm just on edge not knowing. That's why I said call them said Nick. You've been like this since we had the tests done. They said they would call, as soon as the tests were back in. I don't think they are making us wait on purpose, Sharon. They said it could take up to two weeks if you listened to what they were saying to us. That's why, I'm not concerned they've not said anything yet, said Nick. Sharon huffed! What was that for? asked Nick a bit annoyed. Because you're not that bothered said Sharon. What? You are kidding? said Nick angrily. I have been nothing but supportive in all of this. How can you say, I'm not bothered?
I'm going to work. Nick picked up his stuff and headed for the door. Oh Sharon you bloody idiot, Sharon said to herself under her breath. Nick threw his stuff into the back of the car and slammed his fists onto the steering wheel. How dare she say I'm not bothered, I've always wanted kids. He shouted out. He was so angry about what Sharon had said to him. When he got to work, he decided to call the clinic himself. He wanted to know too. Sharon busied herself at work, to make the time pass and to get Nick's statements out of her head. Nick meanwhile, had meeting after meeting to attend. Before he knew it, it was halfway through the afternoon. He was going to phone the clinic then but instead decided to go to Crimson Lights and grab himself a coffee and apologize to Sharon for his behavior this morning. When he arrived, Sharon was serving a customer. He nodded at Sharon, and then went and sat down in one of the booths, and waited for the customer to finish. Nick was in a world of his own when Sharon plonked a coffee in front of him. Hey, said Sharon. Hi said Nick looking up at her. I'm so sorry, for what I said this morning before I went to work.
Stormed off, is more to the point said Sharon still a bit miffed at his attitude. Okay, I'll agree with you said Nick trying to smile, but it was more like a smirk. Look, he said reaching across the table for her hand. Whatever happens with the results, we are in this together. If it's not good news, we will figure something out together. Do you mean if we can't have kids naturally? We will adopt or something? said, Sharon. Yeah! I still want to have a family. Don't you? said Nick crossing his fingers, hoping Sharon was on the same page. Of course, I still want a family with you. We've discussed this enough. Even before we were married. Well, let's phone them now. See if they can tell us anything. I need to know as much as you do said Nick smiling. Oh yes please said Sharon. It's been driving me nuts not knowing anything. Nick squeezed her hand before he got his phone out of his pocket. Come and sit next to me, while I phone the number of the clinic. He wrapped his arm around her, as the phone started to ring. Hi said Nick, as someone answered at the other end. My name is Nick Newman and I'm with my wife Sharon. And we were wondering if you have any results to give us yet.
Hello Mr. Newman, let me have a quick look at your notes and see if there is anything I can tell you. Normally, we do make an appointment for you and your wife to come back to see us for the results. Oh, okay said Nick. Yeah, I'm sorry said the receptionist. It says here on my screen, it says some of the results are back. But they are waiting on two. It says here, I'm to make an appointment for you. Which means I'm not allowed to tell you anything over the phone. Nick looked at Sharon with a sad face. He mouthed I'm sorry at her, and squeezed her hand again. Okay, so while I'm on the phone, can we at least make an appointment? asked Nick. No problem said the receptionist. How about Wednesday next week? It looks like the two tests they're waiting for, should be back by then. That's fine said Nick. They made an appointment, for nine in the morning when the clinic opened. They both couldn't wait, to hear what the tests said. I'm sorry, it's not sooner said Nick coming off the phone. It's okay said Sharon It's not your fault the tests aren't all in yet. At least we have a time and day now. Sharon kissed Nick's cheek. Will you be okay to organize someone to look after this place? asked Nick
