King's POV
My leg wouldn't stop bouncing as I watched a car pull into the parking lot, wishing it was that damn punk Rex so we could leave already. Leo stopped texting me back after we talked about books he liked. He said he was also reading to his mom, so I figured he was still reading or had fallen asleep.
I just wanted to get this over with and get back to him. We needed to talk about what happened earlier. Did he like it? Would he want to do that again? Knowing Leo and what he had been through, if we went out, he would want to keep it behind closed doors, and as much as I wanted to show him off to the world as mine, I could respect that. I would do anything he wanted to do to make him feel comfortable.
The front door opened to the now parked car. I knew the driver wasn't Rex, but that didn't mean he wasn't in the back seat. It wasn't uncommon for people who thought they were someone special to have drivers, but when the man walked into the bar alone, I couldn't stop the groan from passing my lips.
"Will you calm the fuck down! And sit still. You're driving me crazy!" Kiki yelled at me as she ran her hands down her face. "I love you the most in this world, but I swear to whatever god is out there that I will choke you out."
"I'm sorry, but this is taking forever. We have been sitting here for hours, and there's been no sign of this prick. Is Uncle Ben even sure he is going to show up? I'm so sick of chasing after ghosts," I snapped at her. I didn't even care about finding him anymore.
The one I needed to be looking for was the sick fuck, Charlie. He was probably hiding behind his family's money. If he knew what was good for him.
My phone ringing made me jump in the driver's seat. My heart raced as I looked down, thinking it was Leo, but instead, I saw my uncle's name.
"Is this asshole coming or what?" I answered the call rudely.
There was a beep notifying me of a text before my uncle started yelling at me.
"Who the hell do you think you are talking to like that? And yeah. I just got confirmation from someone inside of the time. He should be there in about an hour, depending on traffic. Just wanted to give you a heads up."
I gritted my teeth and bit my tongue. I shouldn't have yelled at him, but something wasn't sitting right with me, and I wanted to get to Leo's house as soon as possible. I was always on edge leaving Leo alone at the house, but it was worse tonight, and I couldn't explain why. Was it because of the kiss?
"Thanks," I said, trying to sound as calm as possible before hanging up the phone.
"One hour to get your head into the game," Kiki said next to me. "After tonight, we won't have to deal with this anymore, and you can spend as much time with the puppy as you want."
"It's not just spending time with him," I admitted. "I'm keeping him safe, and not being there puts him in danger." I never completely told her why I spent every minute I could over there. Maybe she would back off me if she knew.
I looked down at my phone and saw he had texted me, saying he had fallen asleep, but was up now and getting some water. I smiled at it. Good, he was safe right now. I texted back and told him I would be there in hopefully two hours.
"What do you mean danger? King, what the hell is going on? I could help you more if I knew," Kiki said before looking down. "I hate it when you don't talk to me about shit."
"It's not really my business to tell others, and that's why I haven't. Leo had this friend a couple of years ago, and he did some... stuff... to Leo before moving. Now he is back and creeping around Leo. He was the guy that had Leo all freaked out when you first met him. That's why I am staying there. It makes Leo feel safer from that wacko."
