"Hi, this is Lily Langston calling for the third time. I'm leaving a message to see if you're getting my calls. Is everything okay? Thanks." I ended the line; I hadn't been called in for a shift in two weeks.

"I think you should just go in person because your boss is ghosting you," Olive says, popping a piece of popcorn into her mouth as she pauses the movie.

The door opened, and her new roommate, Cara, waved at me awkwardly and stepped into the kitchen.

"What are you guys watching?" Cara asks.

"Beverly Hills Chihuahuas," Olive says, and she looks at us weirdly. "I'm kidding. It's La La Land."

"And you aren't crying?" She looked at the both of us, shocked, and then turned away to go back into the room.

"Bye to you too, Cara," I mumbled and looked at Olive, who just shrugged.

"She's very anti-social," she whispers and passes me the bowl of popcorn.

"Should I go now?" I look at the clock, which says 7:30. She nods and removes the blanket from her lap.

"I'll join you." She returns the bowl, places it on the counter, and grabs her keys.

"What if they fire me?"

"You don't seem to have a job in general right now, do you? So how could this hurt?" I suck in my lips and sigh, she was right, she always was. "Alright fuck it," I say, and she opens the front door, and I followed her out. Where we were met with  Mrs.Morgan unlocking her door.

"Lily!" She mused as I came into sight.

"Mrs. Morgan, how are you?" She carried a full bag of groceries in hand.

"Oh lovely, I'm just tuning in for the night! You must come for coffee soon; I miss your muffins!" I nod, and we continue towards the exit.

On Saturday night, the restaurant was crawling with people. I made my way towards the bar and then into the back area. There, I found the schedule board and then my name.

It had been removed from the staff list. Then, a presence is next to me, and I look to see Ellie. "I've been wondering where the hell you've been. Eric's been busting my ass."

"I haven't been called in for any shifts. Speaking of which, is Eric here?" She nods and points to his office, and Olive follows behind me. I knock on the door and hear a slight cough.

"Come in."

I open the door to be greeted by a puff of smoke and Eric sits up staring at me. He placed his vape down and looked behind me to see Olive.
