When Lily Langston goes to a game with her best friend. The last thing she ever thought to happen was being hit in the face with a ball.
But what left her even more shocked was when the guest pitcher himself, the known ruthless billionaire Hayes Gr...

When it came in the mail, I knew I found the last place in the world I'd like to be.
My high school years were one of bad memories. And so getting the invitation to the reunion was a definite no. I wasn't loved or respected, if anything I was the girl who was shoved into a locker while just trying to focus on her studies remaining invisible.
That's how I liked it.
It's been two weeks since the accident and I've been able to recover from my concussion. But Hayes still treats me like I'm glass and he's carefully walking with me in his hands.
But I know I'd be a flake if I didn't go to this. I'd get an email from Ruby, an old friend asking about my attendance. Being in town, I'd have to see Mom after months of neglect.
Sending me straight to voicemail and texting me for a monthly check. She'd regret it one day, no longer wanting a relationship with her children. The type of one that she once had, where we'd spend our summers together and holidays. But now, we were nothing.
The elevator opens and I hear the sound of his footsteps as I stand in the kitchen. I place the invitation down trying to hide it but as I do he steps in.
"What's that in your hand?"
"Nothing."
"I see a white piece of card stock in your hand with four corners. What were we invited to" I shake my head once and he steps over grabbing it from my hand.
"Wow, high school reunion hm?" I shake my head "What you're opposed to? I loved going to mine."
"Why because the homecoming king turned into a billionaire and the cheerleader's eye fucked you while standing beside their husbands?" He chuckled as I spoke stepping over and wrapping his arm around my waist.
"Hayes" he leans in beside my ear and I feel his smile form against it.
"The only one I'd want eye fucking me in a room is you" my breath hitches from his words. We hadn't been on certain terms since after the accident. Not even full conversations, someone usually interrupted.
"Well, I was no homecoming or prom queen. I was more sports and academic-focused, surprisingly I played for the field hockey team." I pivoted from his words and turned to face him once again, "So you were popular?" I questioned and a smile grew slightly on his face.
"I hated every second of it, I didn't have any real friends. Besides Alisha and my friend Tommy, people just liked me for my looks" he sighed scanning the invitation again "So why don't you want to go?"
"I was not popular" He gasps pretending to be shocked, looking from left to right.
"Call me stunned" I shoved him slightly as he laughed, it was a noise I frequently enjoyed hearing. And I'd been causing him to do it much more lately.
"I was bullied really badly in high school, the girls were so mean and boys even worse. But I made it out and once I got to MIT none of them mattered, I almost disassociated most of high school. I didn't speak or look at people in the halls. Being invisible most of the time was a goal, my brother on the other hand" I rolled my eyes thinking about Warren.
