"Are you sure?"
"Yes"
"Are you sure?"
"Yesss"
"Are you-"
"Lilian I'm going to kill you if you ask again. Yes, and the wedding planner already reached out to me, we are going" I stared at Mom confused. Half questioning if she's lost her mind, or if she's in denial about dad.
"Mom I can't get married in France like this?" I lean against the door of my childhood bedroom. I found myself back at home when the venue was confirmed.
"Honey, a wedding like this? In France at a chateau as well, that's a young girl's dream" Her thumb wiped the rolling tear down my eye "Is something wrong?"
"I don't want to leave Dad alone Mom. What- what if he" Her hand covers my mouth shaking her head.
"You are getting married in France to a very good man. You're going to be happy and so is Dad, honey he'll be fine for a few days. Worst case we fly back ASAP, it's your wedding" Her eyes gloss as she speaks.
"She's right" I hear his crackled voice as he speaks. Dad rolls in slowly on his wheelchair as he stares at me, he looks so small.
"Dad" my voice croaked. A broken smile appeared against his lips, and a nurse followed in behind to watch him.
"Hi Margot" she waves at me and I walk over to my father.
"So my baby g-girls getting married?" His words come out in a whisper and my heart aches a little. I nod at him with a smile "I'll kill the bastard from the great beyond if he hurts ya"
The great beyond, words as a child that would make me laugh. Now hurt more than I can even fathom. I wanted my dad to kill him in person, in real life, not in the afterlife.
"Dad I don't want to do it without you?" He shook his head at me slowly almost causing his oxygen tube to slip off.
"A wedding like this, fully paid, would be irrational to miss. They are offering something superb, elegant" Mom mused. It was more like something she could show off to her friends, just like college. It was never about me, it was always about her. Don't get me wrong, I loved MIT wholeheartedly, some of the best years of my life.
But my mom didn't fully care about my mental health at points. Dad did instead of her, she didn't understand it.
"I can't believe you're getting married at Chateau De Sannes!" She gushed, and a proud smile was shown on Dad's face as he squeezed my hand.
"I'll watch over the phone, I can't travel. But at least I'll get to see you walk down the aisle" I lean in and he kisses my cheek.
"Mom you wouldn't even know what Chateau De Sannes is without a simple Google search lets be for real here" because I honestly wouldn't have known either, but my god it's gorgeous.
