I watched as Olive bounced in her seat. She watched as the pitcher threw the ball, and the batter hit it across the stadium as fans cheered.
Baseball wasn't a sport I was fully interested in. In fact, this was the first game I ever attended. But at age twenty-four and as someone who grew up in Boston, I felt like my time had come.
Plus, the Sox were doing better this year, and Olive's family had season tickets. But the way she asked me could've been nicer. I woke up to a pillow pounding in my face as my alarm wasn't.
But it was 11:47 am and she texted me an hour ago about the tickets even though her room is on the other side of my wall.
Olive began to cheer and move around her seat, attempting to capture the attention of the Jumbotron as it moved around the fans. But she looked disappointed as she looked at me. Who remained in her seat, just watching awkwardly.
"Are you going to just stare at me or join in?" Glaring at her, I stood from my seat in support. The game hadn't even begun, and yet I was cheering from the stands.
She watched as people showed up on the jumbo tron, and I watched her as she continued to attempt to get on it. But that's one thing I loved about Olive: She didn't care what anyone else thought. Even if it were presumed foolish, it never stopped her from being outgoing and fun.
As the scent of popcorn filled our noses, she fished the last twelve dollars out of her pocket. I watched her hand it to the seller, caving to the absurd prices—an absolute scam. But as I watched her pop open the tin and eat the popcorn, my stomach growled, which I knew meant that it was a good scam.
"Fuck I'm hungry." She inches the bucket away glaring at me in warning, "Please?"
"Oh, come on, buy your own!"
