Months were flying by faster than they should've and it was scary. Not because of a time limit, but because of how fast it's been.

It's been four months since the death of my father and almost half a year since I tied the knot with Hayes Grant. Our relationship had stayed the same and changed significantly.

We were now fucking, but god was it different from Jake. He was good in bed but Hayes was something different. He satisfied me in ways I never knew I'd needed.

"Whatcha thinking bout?" I looked up to see Alisha sticking a piece of broccoli in her mouth across from me at the dinner table.

"Things, life, what's it all for?"

"Ah, so we've hit that spiral huh? Stumped on what to get Hayes for his birthday?"

Birthday?

When the fuck was Hayes's birthday?

"I'm sorry, what? When is Hayes's birthday?" Her fork is dropped and she seems slightly annoyed.

"That bastard always tries to walk around his mother fucking birthday! Ugh it's this weekend he'll be 33 and I honestly think that terrifies him" she giggled slightly.

"Wait this weekend? As in Valentine's Day?"

"Yep, he was Lana's favorite Valentine's Day gift! But he's not a birthday kind of guy, he acts like it doesn't exist you know?" She handed me the box of egg rolls and I snagged it from her.

"But why, I love my birthday. It's a get-out-of-free jail card for doing whatever I want and being however I want. I can be a raging bitch, but the day is all about ME" she smiled at me.

"Agreed Lil, great minds think alike" we cheered with our egg rolls.

"So what does the man like? I'm out of any clues on what to get him" She sat in thought for a moment unsure.

"Maybe it's not what you get him, it's what you do! I have the best idea, come on" she stood and went to her bag. She pulled out her laptop and opened it.

"Ah hah! Yep, here it is! Don't let him push you out of this, formulate some idea. I think you can get him on board with your birthday shenanigans"

The weekend was here and so were my plans. I loved birthdays, I don't know why because I hated my own. But it was fun to watch someone experience theirs.

The coffee this morning was sweet and that's just how I liked it. I liked mornings like this, where I sat quietly on the island in the kitchen and looked out the window to the snow.

Today would be hard, mostly because Hayes is a stubborn man. I checked the time and stood from the stool going out to the main foyer.
