Chapter 60

Looking closer, you could see how your mask moved a bit. You first thought that something was happening to your mask and something magic will happen, but when you looked closer, you saw Air's finger slowly bringing the mask to move.

Tears immediately came to your eyes as you ran straight to her bedside and hugged her. Howling, you clung to her while the others still didn't know what just happened.

"Her hands...she's...reaching for Fire's mask!" said Rain speechlessly as everyone fell into each other's arms in relief. Copia immediately got a nurse, who was shocked at the news herself, and looked at Air again. You got up from her bed to make room for the nurse to check her. Nervously you stood there waiting to hear what the nurse will say. "And? Will she make it? Or was it a fake signal?" you asked directly as she took a few steps back. She nodded as a sign that Air was going to make it. She really felt life in Air, it was still very weak, but it was there, and it will prevail.

"She's going to make it this time, it's getting stronger every minute...just give her some time to relax." was the most beautiful thing you heard at the moment. Like a crying child, you lay next to Air again and cried on her shoulder. She somehow fight the death and you'll not gonna lose your girlfriend and your own life.. it was a huge relief for your heart.

"Typical Air...has to fuck with us at first..." joked Mountain. Sarcastically. "Yeah Mountain... you're right about that, but for now let's go and leave Fire here alone... he needs her right now without us watching." you heard Copia say a little louder, so that everyone understood, before suddenly everyone left the room.

"Hey... you strong girl... what are you always doing with us..." so you just told her all the time whatever came into your head. You told her all the things she missed since she wasn't there or even how much you missed her. Even though she probably didn't hear you anyway, you just wanted to talk to her and it helped you in a certain way.

Without being really tired, you fell asleep at some point and slept through until the next day.

Two more days passed and you were only with her in her room. You didn't get bored. Watching Air grow stronger and stronger every day was just the most exciting thing for you. "I'm so hungry... I think I'll go eat something..." you said as you grabbed your stomach, which was growling.

After giving Air another kiss, you made your way to the dining hall. There you had to look for a free seat, then you sat down with Copia, Cirrus and Mountain. "Hey, how are you guys?" Cirrus' look became more pleased when she looked into your face. "Good... and Fire... your crack... it's barely visible!" Copia then also looked at you smiling.

You grabbed your cheek and felt the tear almost disappear. It was still an unfamiliar feeling not to wear your mask for so long, but you knew it was in good hands with Air. Your subconscious mind always encouraged you that having your mask in her hand would make her stronger even faster.

You then talked a little about Air, as you finished your meal.

Back at Air's, you told her about all the other ghouls and how much they miss you too. But you also told her about your heavenly meal just now and about the weather before you fell asleep again.

The sun's rays shone through the window on some flowers that were standing on a table. Slowly you woke up and dreamily looked around the room. You had your arms around Air's waist, while you lay your head on her belly.

Someone gently stroked your head, which was so relaxed that you first stretched and snuggled closer to Air again.

Dreamy you just thought again, as you noticed something.

Confused you lifted your head from Air's belly to look her in the face. She took her hand from your head and smiled at you. "Air... you're awake." and again tears came from your eyes. You hugged her tightly to get rid of all your joy, which made her laugh, breaking your spirit even more.

She did it. She is back.. your girl is back..

"H-how are you?" you asked frantically, when you let go of her again and looked into her most beautiful colorful eyes, which hypnotized you as always. "Fine..." she said weakly. Your heart was pounding as you heard her voice again, which sounded like the most perfect devil's voice. Even just hearing her voice again made your eyes moisten again.

"I missed you so much..." you said grabbing your cheek to wipe away your tears. "I know...I missed you too though..." she smiled "H-how?" you looked at her confused. "That's what you used to tell me in all your stories... our did you forgot?" a little touched, you then looked elsewhere. You felt embarrassed just now, thinking that she had heard everything. A grip on your chin made you look into Air's eyes.

"I loved your stories, they calmed me down, thank you." she said you immediately went crazy for her.

"Is there anyone you want me to get? Should I let the others know you're awake?" you looked at her questioningly. You were about to get up, but her weak grip stopped you and pulled you back to her in bed. "Not yet...right now I just need you..."

So you snuggled back up to her and just talked. At some point she had tightened around your waist and laid her head on your chest as you then ran your warm hands through her soft hair. Your masks lay on the small table next to her bed, which was really a sweet thing when your masks lie there so close to each other.

Your tails lay twisted together next to you as you noticed how you were getting tired of her growling until you finally fell asleep yourself.
