Beth's POV:
"I wanna visit you!" She said, dragging out the you.
I sighed, "I still have no clue how to explain it to them. To her."
There was a loud groan, "You don't owe them anything, though! It's not even that serious, like it's just a visit. If you want, I can just pop up outta nowhere. That might help you explain, ya know, improvise."
I rolled my eyes, "How about we blow my life up once again on my terms, no?" I said.
She just chuckled, "You know, sometimes you really have a tendency to be dramatic."
I heard voices outside the hotel room and sighed, "Listen, I gotta go, we have to leave for our performance soon."
"So you wanna hang up so they don't hear us, right?" She said, sounding a tad bit annoyed.
An ounce of guilt coursed through me, "You know why I am so careful with our friendship, right?"
She sighed, "Yeah, I know. It's all good, babe. Go slay a performance."
I smiled, "Bye." And just then the door opened, and Jade entered.
She assessed my body language and closed the door behind her.
"We have to leave in 10 minutes, but I gotta have a talk with you." She said, sitting down next to me.
My heart skipped a beat, Jade was very aware of my secretive behaviour, just like Perrie, but I knew unlike Perrie, Jade had no problem bringing it up. It was why I avoided being alone with her in a room.
"What's up?" I said, trying to sound casual.
"You sound like you have a stick up your ass." She said, slightly chuckling with a teasing glint in her eyes.
Then, as quickly as she chuckled, she turned serious again, "Who are you talking to?" She asked, straightforward and uncaring about being gentle.
I sighed, "Jade, I really don't want to explain right now." I said quietly.
Surprisingly, she didn't seem urgent about finding out, "That's fine, but I do want you to know that I want to know soon. And I'm sure you're aware that Perrie is very much being eaten alive by the uncertainty... I know you don't owe her or us anything really, but don't be cruel. I'm not saying you are being cruel right now, but just in case, don't leave her clueless on purpose."
To be honest, I was a little hurt that she thought I would even do that, but then again, sometimes that thought might have crept in, though I never dwell on it for longer than a second.
I nodded, "I promise I'll do my best not to."
She smiled and hugged me, "I had no doubt about that."
************
Since we wanted our reunion to be a surprise, though everyone has very clear suspicions, we decided to arrive at the show on separate times.
That meant for me, though, that I had to go to an event like this for the first time in three years, I don't know if I still got it, to be honest.
So, while I was driven there in a limousine, I took several very deep breaths. I have to remind myself that this is one of the least terrible things I had to get through. It's probably one of the easiest, let's not lie to ourselves here.
I checked my makeup in my small pocket mirror, and after making sure I'm all set, I finally gave my driver the go and he let me out so I could go through the red carpet.
The feeling of everyone's eyes on me, everyone's anticipation was surreal. I never really thought about how many people must have missed me. All of our mixers.
