Perrie's POV:
After I got Noah's approval, my next stop was Sam. I think she will be ten times harder than him, simply because she really has been there since the beginning. She must've been even more disappointed with me.
It was perfect that Noah asked Beth to meet up today since I could easily invite Sam over now. I asked Noah to keep her as long as possible since I've already told him all about my plan. He will also notify me should she leave earlier than planned.
After Beth tried to bring her anger with me down a notch, she has very much been pleasant, but I dread the reaction she will give me when she finds out I want Beth back.
I truly do understand perfectly why she is as protective as she is with Beth, especially concerning me, but I do hope she'll see how genuine I am being.
After I've put on a pot of tea and set out the snacks on the living room table, the doorbell rang, alerting me of Sam's presence.
I quickly checked that I looked put together and let her drive through the gate. After she parked, she stepped off her car and made her way to the door, which I had already opened for her.
She smiled a small smile while approaching me and said, "Hey Perrie.". Usually, she would leave it be at that after everything that happened, but today she hugged me, which at least means I'm off to a good start.
"Hey, Sam." I greeted back and let her inside. I ushered her to the living room and got the tea pot along with two tea cups.
She raised an eyebrow at me and said, "I know we're thirty, but now I feel even older."
I chuckled, "I think embracing it is better than fearing it. Though if we're being honest, I was always more of an stay at home girl than a night out girl."
She chuckled along, and then I recognised how she turned to 'lawyer mode' for a short moment, "Now what are we gonna talk about today?"
As quick as she slipped into the tone, she also quickly slipped out, I'm pretty sure she does it without noticing.
"Well, first of all, congratulations on getting married to Steve. I wish I could've been there." I said, starting off lightly.
She sipped her tea, "I was wishing for the same thing that day, but at the same time, I wasn't." She said honestly.
I nodded completely, understanding where she's coming from, "I don't blame you. How was it, though?" I asked.
She smiled and recalled that day with a soft smile and a glint in her eyes.
After she was done, she looked me in the eye and said, "Though I obviously love recalling that special day, I'm very certain you did not call me here to have a thorough description of my wedding day. What's going on, Perrie?" She asked.
I sipped my tea and got ready. This is my best chance of making things right with Sam.
"Lately, I have been apologising a lot to many people, rightfully so obviously, but one person I haven't apologised to is you." I started off.
Sam frowned, and God, it just makes sense that her and Beth are best friends, "You didn't do anything to me."
I shook my head, "Not actively, no. Still, I broke one of my only promises to you, to not hurt Beth, and I very much failed at that. And while it's clear that Beth is closer to me than you and Noah, I still considered you one of my closest friends. Let's be honest. It doesn't matter how close we are. If one of us hurt Beth, the other will most definitely immediately side with her. Still, I shouldn't have just assumed you would never wanna see me again. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe if I were in your shoes, I'd be very hurt if you simply cut me off for no reason. I'm guessing with me it's also different than with the rest of the girls, I'd like to say I was a little closer to you than them because I was with Beth. So I'm really sorry, Sam. After you've helped me in so many ways, it was extremely unfair of me to cut all contact with you and break my promise." I said, barely able to stop my stuttering.
Sam took all of it in and seemed gobsmacked. She didn't say anything for a few minutes, and I decided to let her take it all in and analyse it in peace. I know I'd need it in her shoes.
A couple minutes later, she put her cup of tea down and surprised me by reaching forward and hugging me, but way tighter than she ever had before.
"Thank you." She finally said, sounding so small, which seemed wrong for someone as confident as her.
"I never really noticed that my feelings didn't feel acknowledged until just now. It's probably silly, but I did feel kind of abandoned by you, too. Though you were Beth's girlfriend, you became a constant that was very comforting. I knew that if something had happened, I could trust in you to be there. I never realised that my petty behaviour ever since the reunion didn't only come from my protectiveness of Beth, but also from my own hurt. Thank you for helping me realise that, and I definitely accept your apology." She smiled at me.
I smiled back, and the tension once again drew out of me slowly, I'm starting to feel better and better. The last step is getting Beth back.
"I'm very glad. Now that this extremely important matter is done, I need your approval." I said.
Sam raised an eyebrow, "For marriage...?" She questioned, confused.
My cheeks tinted red, "That too, eventually, but for starters only to get Beth back."
She smirked, "Eventually... Good to know." Then she smiled sincerely, "Even with everything that happened, I can still not imagine anyone more fit to be with Beth than you. Of course, you have my approval, but now I want to hear what you have planned."
I smiled widely, always extremely proud to display my well thought out plan.
