Reyna slips into the crowd of students that were heading towards the carriages, her eyes fixated on the ground as she walks in the same direction.

"Reyna Lupin!"

Caleb Diggory's shout catches the attention of the witch, who breaks into a wide grin. She jumps into the open arms of the wizard and embraces him tightly. The wizard lifts her up in a warm hug before gently placing her back on the ground.

"Was I not worthy of your company on the train?" Caleb asks as they climb into one of the carriages.

"Well, I saw-" Reyna's face contorts slightly. "Him on the train and you know I never back down from a fight"

"Wouldn't life be so much easier if you two just ignored each other?"

"Ever the Hufflepuff," Reyna teases. "Besides, he's like a scientific study"

"Of what?"

"The effects of severe oxygen deprivation at birth,"

As the carriage trundles towards the castle, a chill that was unnatural for early September fills the air. Reyna sticks her head out of the carriage as they pass through the large, wrought iron gates that were flanked with stone columns topped with winged boars. The witch spots two hooded dementors, guarding either side of the gate.

"They brought dementors here?" Reyna's words were both a statement and a question.

"Must be Ministry orders," Caleb shrugs. "Can't imagine Dumbledore being too happy about it though"

"Did your dad not mention it?"

"Might have told golden balls," Caleb rolls his eyes at the thought of his twin brother.

"Sun still shining out of his arse?" Reyna asks.

"Does it ever not?" The boy snorts.

To the entire population of Hogwarts, it was clear that Caleb and Reyna were a strange pairing of friends. Caleb had a calming presence about him, always seeking to pacify any situation, while Reyna was known for being a troublemaker and starting fights, verbal or physical. Despite their differences, their friendship seemed to be a perfect balance, and they complemented each other in ways that no one understood.

As the carriage comes to a stop, Reyna and Caleb step out and are instantly met with a sudden outpouring of rain that descends from the skies above. The witch stands next to the carriage and lifts her face upward as she welcomes the droplets which trickle down her face.

For as long as Caleb had known Reyna, the witch had a love for rain that had never once wavered. Even on days when storms rattled the window panes of the castle and students hid in the castle walls, Reyna would venture out to the black lake, relishing in the downpour. It was as if the rain brought her some semblance of peace, however fleeting the moment may be.

"You're a strange egg,"

"And yet you love me anyway," Reyna retorts, looping her arm through Caleb's.

As the two teenagers approach the castle, it was clear that they were slightly late when no other students were around. The giant oak doors swung open, revealing a magnificent entrance hall bathed in the warm glow of flickering torches. The decadent marble staircase, which ascended to the upper floors of the school was always a sight to behold. Its intricate carvings and majestic presence always left the teenagers in awe.

Upon entering the Great Hall, Reyna and Caleb were greeted by a sea of students, pointed black hats indicative of the first years who had just been sorted into their houses. The candles floating over the tables caused the faces of the room's occupants to glimmer. Reyna watches as Professor Flitwick carries away the famous, raggedy hat and a three-legged stool out of the hall.

"Oh, thank Merlin," Reyna breathes a sigh of relief. "We missed the sorting"

"I'll see you later," Caleb says to his friend.

"Are we taking a trip to the abandoned wing tonight?" Reyna asks the Hufflepuff who nods. "Brilliant, I'm informed it makes me more mellow"

"If only it was a permanent solution,"

Following their separation, the pair proceeded to their assigned house tables. Reyna chose to sit with Alicia Spinnet and Oliver Wood, who was passionately discussing Quidditch and his determination to secure the house cup during his final year.

"We know Oliver," Reyna interrupts the boy. "I think if we replaced one of the beaters-"

"Reyna," Alicia groans playfully. "You know George is a damn good beater, personal issues aside"

"We're hosting practice tomorrow, 7 am," Oliver states and Reyna's mouth falls open in shock.

"You're truly evil," Reyna murmurs.

"Give a man an inch and he takes five miles," Alicia nods in agreement.

After the headmaster had dismissed the student population to their respective dormitories, Reyna Lupin and Caleb Diggory silently made their way towards a remote part of the castle. This particular area was hardly ever visited by anyone, be it students or professors.

It was a place that had been damaged by a magical blast that had taken place several years ago, and unfortunately, some damage caused by magic can be irreparable. Despite the damages, Reyna and Caleb found solace in this secluded spot, where they could indulge in their smoking habit without fear of being caught. The smell of smoke would dissipate in the fresh air and no one would be any the wiser.

Sitting on the remains of the flooring, two individuals enjoyed the serene beauty of the Scottish Highlands. Their feet dangled over the edge while they gazed upwards, marvelling at the vast expanse of the heavens. Reyna casually released a puff of smoke from her mouth, her eyes fixed on the celestial sphere above. The twinkling stars shone brightly through the wispy clouds that drifted lazily across the sky, providing a clear and breathtaking view for anyone looking at the night sky.

"Did you know," Caleb's voice breaks the silence and Reyna turns to look at him. "Bears have a specific tree to scratch themselves on and will travel miles just to scratch themselves on that tree"

After Caleb's words, there is a moment of stillness as Reyna blinks a few times, her mind struggling to absorb the information her friend had just shared. Suddenly, a chuckle escapes from the witch's lips, which quickly turns into uncontrollable laughter shared by the two teenagers.

"You're so high,"

"I know,"

"I know,"
