Darkness

Xichen sighed. It had been a week since his brother fell into a coma. Wei Ying wasn't any better off. At times the dark most would appear, swirling around him. Xichen did all he could do to keep it at bay.

Wei Ying lay motionless on the bed next to Lan Zhan. He wasn't in a coma, but he wasn't in a natural sleep either. Whatever his power was, it had a tight grip on him and wasn't releasing him anytime soon.

Xichen needed to figure out what to do. Every time he tried - every attempt he made at sealing it away - only seemed to make it grow in power. He was growing fed up with it, until one point when Wei Ying was having a nightmare.

Wei Ying: "Lan Zhan! No! Wait! Where are you going? Lan Zhan!"

The dark power billowed around the three in large masses of dark clouds. It filled the entire room with a thick blanket of darkness.

Xichen couldn't see anything. He lit the darkness with his chi, creating a small flame bright enough to light the entire room. The darkness swallowed it immediately. Xichen wondered what would happen should he create a large burst of chi. He didn't wish to try though. It seemed to grow more powerful the more chi it swallowed. So, he sat still and waited. He would wait, even if it took a lifetime.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Lan Zhan didn't know where he was. All he knew was that he was in complete darkness. He walked for what seemed like ages through the thick blanket of darkness. He finally reached an area with a light up ahead. He stopped for a moment.

"Wei Ying?" he whispered to himself. The figure turned. Lan Zhan gasped quietly. It was Wei Ying! "Wei Ying!"

He ran toward the figure, but stopped dead in his tracks once he was close enough. He saw the differences.

The figure looked just like Wei Ying from a distance. Only once Lan Zhan was close enough did he realize it wasn't Wei Ying at all! Instead, a figure with the likeness of the fox boy stood there. The figure was taller, leaner than the fox.

Lan Zhan brandished his sword. "Who is it? Not Wei Ying!"

In the voice of the fox boy it replied, "Lan Zhan, what are you talking about? It's me! Wei Ying!"

Lan Zhan kept his guard up. "Not Wei Ying!" he repeated.

Again, the figure used the fox's voice, adding his mannerisms. "Lan Zhan! You silly dragon! Do I have to prove myself to you!"

Lan Zhan still wasn't convinced. "Not Wei Ying!"

"Lan Zhan!" the figure whined. "How could you be so heartless and keep saying it isn't me!"

Lan Zhan kept his sword held high, pointed at the figure's throat. "Not Wei Ying," he repeated once more.

"Lan Zhan! I'm very disappointed in you!" The figure turned away. It covered one half of its face with its right hand. It chuckled. It's voice deepened. "Stupid dragon! How dare you see right through me and spoil my plan!" The figure turned back to the dragon. Its eyes glowed a menacing red.

Lan Zhan felt his heart skip a beat and begin to race. Something inside him told him to run, but he was frozen in place. His sword hand trembled slightly. He played it as though he was fully composed, when in reality he wanted to run.

The power the figure was giving off was enough to make anyone freeze in their tracks, and tremble in fear. No emotion showed on the dragon's face.

"Where is Wei Ying?" he demanded.

"Wei Ying? He's perfectly safe. He's trapped inside his own dark prison, chasing after you. He won't ever catch you though. Never!" The figure cackled menacingly.
