Catching Fireflies | MountainGhoul x OC

~CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO~

"Nessa, I swear to Satan and everything unholy, if you don't get that thing away from me right now! Ahh-"

A screaming Phantom ran around with you chasing after him, laughing hysterically. "Oh come on Phan-Phan, it's just a baby spider. It's cute, look!"

"Uh Uh! No, nope, never was, never will be!" Dodging the backstage crew members as you continue to chase after him, Phantom spots Mountain standing talking with one of the sound techs. "Mountain, thank fuck!- Control your girlfriend, she has a spider-"

You start laughing even more as he tries to hide behind the confused looking ghoul. Barely managing to get out a small, "what", before he spots you jogging your way over.

A pale look overtaking his face as Phantom's words finally sink in, his eyes drifting down to your hands. Both of which were closed around the small spider you had found. Shaking his head, the Earth ghoul quickly turned around and swiftly pushed past Phantom. Letting out a shriek, the shorter air ghoul followed after the taller of the two.

Stopping to bend over, bursting out in laughter, you tried to regain your breath. Failing to do so, which just made you laugh even more.

Rain, looking very confused, wandered over to you from the side stage entrance. A faint, "Rain, just run!", was heard from somewhere up ahead. "You okay Nessa?"

Taking a deep breath, you stand back up chuckling. "Yeah, I'm fine. I was just chasing after Phantom, that's all." Sending the human shifted ghoul a smile, hoping to ease his confusion a bit.

"You know, I don't think I've ever seen Mountain leave a room that fast after you entered. Much less run out of one-"

Trying to stifle his laugh, coughing to hide his small slip up. He gave a silent question, nodding with his head towards your enclosed hands. Opening them up slowly, revealing the tiny spider to the calm water ghoul.

His face lighting up significantly after seeing what you're holding. "You like spiders?" You ask aloud while looking down at your hands.

"My dad used to have a whole bunch. Any kind of spider, you name it, and he probably had one." His face dropping slightly, as if he remembered something he wished he hadn't. "Well before the big fire anyway."

Seeing your confused and concerned look out of the corner of his eye, the ghoul carried on. "Things happen, accidental or not. We've got to learn to live with them I guess." Sending you a sad smile, the shorter out of the both of you met your eyes.

Returning the same look, you took hold of his wrist and shifted the small creature from your hands to his. "It's better to remember the good from the past, and focus on the good you can make in your future. Don't wanna drag yourself through the mud again, you know?"

"You're always more than welcome to come to me, if you decide you want to talk about it. About anything really, doesn't matter the topic, I'll always be here." Patting his head as one would a child, you smile once more and start to walk off to find both Mountain and Phantom. Both of which you hoped had stopped running at this point.

"Thank you Nessa, really." Looking back to see a teary eyed water ghoul staring at his hands and the mini spider he's holding.

"Anytime Rain, anytime." Turning back to continue walking, you slow your pace as you're about to exit the room and enter the next. "You better name me the Godmother."

Hearing him chuckle along at what you said, you take that as your que to leave. "Yes, mam."

Six Hours Later :

"Mom, why does he get to have a pet, but I don't?" A pouting Dew said from his spread out position on one of the couches.

"I don't know who you're calling 'mom' Dew, but I don't think Aether would appreciate you trying to change his gender without you telling him. He's not even here to tell you off, what a shame." You spoke out, causing laughter to erupt throughout the room.

"And Rain got to keep the spider because I know he'll take care of it. If you get a pet, it'll die from something within the first two days."

Hearing a scoff come from Swiss, you turn to him; looking away from your stack of poster papers you were making sure everyone had signed. "Two days? Nessa, you give him too much credit. He could kill a moss ball without even trying."

"Well at least I don't fall off my stage, Swiss."

"I- That has nothing to do with killing pets. You little shit, get over here."

"AHH, MOM HELP!-"

Dew's shrieking and Swiss's yelling are all that can be heard around the room. A handful of those on the couches are filled with laughter and giggles. You and Mountain, who are the only two sitting at the break table, only chuckled and went back to checking the posters.

"Now now son, you got yourself into that. I'm sure you can get out." You spoke out calmly, barely holding in your own sniggers. Mountain on the other hand, managed to only let a huff of a laugh out; trying not to spiral like the others in the room.

"Do you know when Copia's coming back, firefly?"

Slightly stunned by the nickname you have just been dubbed with, you take a moment to pause and look up at your other half. "No I don't, firefly." Grinning ear to ear at the blush that spread across his face.

"I said that out loud, didn't I?"

"Sure did sweet cheeks." Standing up after finishing, the smile on your face only growing in size. "Sure did. Can't say I didn't like it though."

Placing a kiss on his nose and one on his forehead, you made your way towards the door. "Watch the children, would you dear? I'm gonna go hunting for Copia so we can leave to go eat."

Letting out a small giggle at his horror stricken face, you fully exit the room; leaving everyone else behind as you started off.

A/N - Kind of just a filler chapter, didn't really want to skip straight to the upcoming event(s). Felt like if I did, then it would seem a bit rushed.
