Soft sniffles filled the air before you even had the chance to fully stop at the door. Frowning slightly, you bring your fist up to try and gently announce your presence; having to shift the plate from one hand to the other as to not drop it. "Hun?" Waiting a beat before carrying on, trying to listen for any sounds coming from the other side. "My name's Nessa, can you tell me yours?"
Very faintly hearing a shuffling sound from inside, you perk up a bit. "You don't have to talk if you don't want to, I just brought you some food. Figured you'd be a bit hungry." Once again receiving no response, you let a tiny sigh slip past your lips. "I'm just gonna open the door a bit to set the plate down for you, okay?"
Getting more silence in return, you follow through with what you said you would do. Cracking the door open only enough to fit the plate of dumplings and veggie rice through. After parting with it, you retracted your hand and took a seat against the wall on the opposite side of the hallway.
A minute or so went by before more shuffling was heard from the room, and another two before you could hear the fork moving things around on the plate. The ghost of a smile could be seen on your face at the sounds coming from the room.
Debating on whether or not to talk, and what to talk about, you go quiet for a bit; wanting to try and get the girl a bit more comfortable with your presence. Especially now that you'll be taking care of her for the time being. "Do you have a favorite color?" Picking at the loose thread that's coming from the bottom of your over shirt. Only waiting a second before answering, knowing she wasn't going to fill the silence. "Mine's green, but not a light green, a darker shade. Like the needles of a pine tree during winter."
Realizing that she's never been to the overworld, having lived in hell her whole life, you cringe a bit at the fact you just recently overlooked. "It's a type of tree they have up there. Instead of leaves, they have these little green needles on their branches which look so pretty in the winter time."
As you were about to go to speak again, the door cracked open just enough for you to be able to see a small ash colored hand wrap around the side of it and an eye looking out at you. Sleek black hair fell down from the top of her head, slightly tangled towards the bottom and the one showing horn; from your guess it hadn't been brushed in at least a couple days.
Throwing her a polite smile, she beat you to speaking. "Can you tell me more about the plants they have up there?"
Her request made the smile on your face grow even more, nodding your head to answer her previous question. "There's a whole bunch. They have flowers, trees, bushes, even plants that live in the sea." Laughing softly at the amazement that was shown on her face, you carry on. "I can tell you more if you'd like me to."
Nodding her head after thinking about it for a moment; she stepped back, pulling the door with her. Standing slowly, trying not to startle her, you dip your head towards the ground as you walk in. Hoping that if you showed her some respect she would ease up a bit, which she had.
As soon as the door was shut again, her shoulders dropped slightly. It was as if she had suddenly been given room to breathe, but then she remembered the woman standing in front of her. Once again tensing up.
Fully intending to keep true to your promise, you took a seat and waited for her to do the same. And as she did, finally settling down on the other side of the bed you were now both sitting on, she gave you a puzzling look. Almost quizzing what your next moves were going to be.
To her pleasure, the two of you went on to have a lovely conversation about plants. More so a one sided conversation seeing as she just sat there taking everything in, but a conversation nonetheless.
