Yesterday, Harper gave me a personal telescope as a gift. Just a few days ago, a shipment of new, more precise and powerful telescopes had arrived. So Harper thought it would be appropriate to give me one from the previous batch.
Initially, I was excited to go in search of Spider, hoping to try it out and observe the sky together. But disappointingly, Spider didn't find the instrument as attractive and intriguing as I did.
Then I remembered who I always turned to when I wanted to share my new possessions and discoveries: Neteyam.
So, I spent the rest of the day searching and reading about the sky of Pandora and its solar system. That way, today, I would be prepared and capable of showing Neteyam the sky from my telescope.
Today, in the afternoon, after lunch, Spider was going to practice his archery skills with Lo'ak. I decided to accompany him for a long stretch until our paths diverged. Spider continued on his way to meet up with Lo'ak at the riverbanks, where they would probably try their hand at fishing with their bows, as usual. However, I headed towards the Na'vi settlements. Specifically, I made my way to the home of the Sullys, in search of Neteyam. More precisely, heading towards the Sully's home, in search of Neteyam.
With care and effort, I ascended the exhausting path of branches, stairs, and vines until I reached the treetop where I spotted the hanging cabin I was looking for, supported by three enormous branches. Moving cautiously, I made my way onto the main branch and upon arrival, I was kindly greeted by Kiri, who extended a warm invitation for me to come in. With joy, I greeted Tuk and Neytiri, who were also present.
"Good afternoon, Neytiri," I said with a smile.
Neytiri was truly intimidating. However, her presence somehow instilled a feeling of trust and kindness in me. Neytiri was a figure in my life, a true inspiration. Everyone in the Omaticaya clan knows her story and that of Jake.
She is an example to me, of fighting for what one desires and believes is right.
In fact, she and my mother knew each other, and she has always highlighted how sweet and brave my mother was. It's possible that this is the reason why I feel such a strong connection with Neytiri.
Although she doesn't tolerate Spider's presence very well, she is kind and affectionate with me. Surely because I don't spend even half the time Spider does in her home.
However, Neteyam also explained to me that it is extremely difficult for her to dissociate the relation between Spider and his father. She is the one who has possibly lost the most due to the war, and Miles Quaritch is directly to blame.
If it weren't for Kiri, Spider wouldn't even be able to set foot in their home. Kiri is the main mediator between them, and it's thanks to her that Neytiri accepts and welcomes Spider with her family.
"Good afternoon, Della," she smiled at me, surprised by my presence. "What can I do for you?"
"I was looking for Neteyam," I raised my books and the telescope in my arms, "I wanted to show him something new, a gift from Harper." I felt a little intimidated, but I decided to smile to calm myself down.
"Oh! And what is that?" she asked, completely friendly, but it was noticeable that she wanted to make sure I wasn't influencing her son with destructive weapons or human trivialities. I know that, despite being very understanding, for her, most "human things" disrupt the natural cycle of Pandora and its traditions. Especially firearms.
"It's a tool that allows you to observe the stars and planets up close," I said cautiously but confident that the idea would please her. After all, I simply wanted to study and get to know the sky of Pandora better. "I wanted to observe the sky with Neteyam at dusk," I blushed at the thought.
