Stepping out of the biological laboratory at sunrise, I traversed the inflatable pressure membranes encircling the entrance. To my astonishment, Kiri, Spider, Lo'ak, and Tuk were discreetly navigating through the labyrinthine marui. It just so happened that, at that precise moment, their parents and Neteyam were away, diligently patrolling the outskirts astride their ikran.
"Where do you think you're going?" I asked, catching their attention.
"Oh, great," Spider scoffed sarcastically when I caught them.
"We're heading to the battlefield," Tuk announced with a slight gleam of enthusiasm in her eyes.
"She's joking, right?" I raised my voice alarmed, shifting my gaze between Lo'ak and Spider in search of a sensible answer.
Nevertheless, the four insubordinates exchanged complicit glances and defiantly sprinted away, leaving me perplexed behind them.
I was forced to chase them, feeling the urgency to stop them and prevent such recklessness. Without time to connect to my Avatar and dressed in uncomfortable clothes for running, I plunged into the race, feeling adrenaline coursing through my being. My mind was focused on catching up with them.
Descending among vines and daringly leaping over the floating mountains in a risky and exhilarating manner, the four escaped from High Camp, our refuge. I followed their trail with difficulty, struggling to stay close as we aimlessly distanced ourselves from the camp.
Eventually, they stopped, and I managed to catch up, only to realize that I was completely lost, with no idea of how to return.
"You guys are the craziest and most reckless people in this universe," I reproached, panting.
"Come on, don't be boring," Kiri responded with a mischievous touch.
Lo'ak, seeking to provoke me, added, "Yes, ever since you spend so much time with Neteyam, you've become a buzzkill grandma".
His words struck a nerve.
"Oh, you crossed the line," I exclaimed, pointing at him threateningly as I approached. However, Kiri intervened and stopped me with a gentle grip. Our eyes met, and in that moment, her cheerful and carefree smile somehow managed to infect me.
