Monthsary (Kagami Taiga x Reader)

***

Don't talk to me. I hate you.

Kagami Taiga groaned loudly upon reading your message. The huge pile of burgers in front of him remained untouched as he had no appetite.

"What did she say, Kagami-kun?" Kuroko Tetsuya, who was sitting across him while sipping on his favorite Vanilla Milkshake, asked curiously. He could see hopelessness in his friend's eyes. Actually, he knew instantly there was a problem the minute Kagami invited him to Maji Burger after their basketball practice.

Kagami hesitated for a minute, as if embarrassed, before he answered, "She said she hates me."

Well, Kagami couldn't blame you. It was his fault, really. He forgot that today was your first monthsary.

You had waited all day for him to greet you but he didn't. So you decided to come and watch him practice instead in hopes that he would remember once he sees you but still he didn't. He even told you to go home on your own for today because he would be busy with practice.

It was such a very special day for you but Kagami only thought of it as a typical, regular day. You got extremely upset. You couldn't help but pick a fight with him.

"I kind of understand, [Last Name]-san." Kuroko commented. Upon hearing what happened earlier from Kagami himself, the teal haired youth couldn't help but feel sorry for you. "It's your fault for forgetting such an important day, Kagami-kun."

"I know," Kagami responded, releasing an exasperated sigh. He didn't mean to forget. He was just really not used to this dating thing, he didn't know you were supposed to celebrate monthsaries. "What should I do, Kuroko? She doesn't want to talk to me anymore."

Kuroko took a few seconds to answer, as if analyzing the situation. "She probably doesn't mean that. It's just that she's very upset with you right now."

Upon hearing that, Kagami's expression lightened up somehow. "Really?"

"But you need to make it up to her. Why don't you go talk to her in person and bring her flowers?"

Kagami nodded his head, completely in agreement. This guy really was a life-saver. "You're right. Thanks, Kuroko."

Kuroko gave a small smile as he watched his friend stood up from his seat then scrambled away. "Good luck, Kagami-kun."

The redhead ran to the nearest flower shop to buy a bouquet of flowers. Realizing that he didn't even know what your favorite was, he settled for some tulips. He even bought a basket of fruits from a shop he came across with along the way.

When he arrived at your house, he inhaled deeply as if gathering courage, then knocked on your front door. There was no answer, so he tried calling your name, but there was still no response. He fished his phone out of his pocket then sent you a message.

[Name], I'm at the door. Open up.

You replied right away, much to his relief. Though it was not what he expected.

Go away!

Kagami froze on his spot, looking so dejected. For a moment there he thought about leaving, he was afraid you would only hate him more if he didn't stop pestering you. But he didn't want to lose you, he had a feeling he might if he didn't fix this right away.

Please, [Name]. Let's talk. Please...

There was no response from you but after waiting for a few more minutes the door in front of him finally opened. He immediately composed himself, wiping away the miserable look on his face. But upon seeing you glare at him while leaning against the doorframe with your arms crossed over to your chest, he got nervous again.

What if you really hated him now? What should he do?

You weren't saying anything at all and just merely looking at him with that frown on your face. It was as if you were waiting for him to talk first, so he shoved the flowers and the basket of fruits in front of you.

"F-For you," Kagami said nervously, somewhat worried of your reaction.

You blinked your eyes twice then rolled them at him, not caring to get the things he brought for you from his hands. Even if he was inexperienced with these sort of things, this was still too much. The flowers were okay, but...

"Really, Taiga? Fruits? Do I look like I'm sick?"

Kagami scratched the back of his head awkwardly, the expression on his face mirrored utter embarrassment and regret. Why did he have to buy a basket of fruits of all things? Ah, he thought it would be the perfect gift since he also brought one when they visited his senpai, Kiyoshi Teppei, while he was recuperating in the hospital after his operation. Kiyoshi looked so happy when he saw it.

The redhead groaned inwardly. He was such an idiot. Why didn't he stick to Kuroko's advice?

"I'm sorry, [Name]," he started in a much serious tone. "I didn't know what you like so I just bought whatever I thought was going to make you happy. I'm sorry I don't even know what your favorite flower is. I'm sorry for forgetting that today is supposed to be a special day for us. I'm sorry for being like this. I didn't mean to forget. It's just that..."

He trailed off deliberately as if he was hesitating.

Surprised, your eyes widened. He sounded so miserable and frustrated with himself. You were indeed upset with him earlier, but you didn't think it would also make him realize that he knew so little of you. "Taiga, you—"

"I just..." he started, cutting you off, "I just thought we don't really need to celebrate monthsaries since we'll always be together anyway."

You gasped at what he said. You stared into his face, he was blushing profusely as he avoided your gaze by looking away. You knew he was being truthful with you, and it melted your heart.

So cute...

Giggling, you wrapped your arms around him, causing him to nearly drop the items he was holding. "Okay, I forgive you."

He heaved a deep sigh, relieved. "Thank you, [Name]."

Kagami promised to himself not to forget important details about you and your relationship from now on. He promised he would be more sensitive to your feelings.

He promised he would become a better boyfriend.
