third person.
after the lunch period on friday, penelope walked into mr. palgrave's classroom with a small smile on her face as she made her way over to her usual desk and beginning to grab out her books and pencil case.
and although she hadn't seen or talked to jonah since he came over and hung out at her house on the wednesday evening for about half an hour, she didn't have any major doubts of how this period was going to play out.
the desk next to her still empty as their teacher entered and begun the lesson, penelope's eyes quickly travelled around the room then back to her notebook as the smile dropped. the boy she was wanting to see, still nowhere in sight.
accepting that he was probably just skipping class, she turned her full attention to the class work, bringing her left elbow up to the table and lightly resting her cheek on the palm of her hand as she noted down the formula.
"oh it's nice of you to join us," mr. palgrave sarcastically spoke as he turned to the boy entering the classroom. "jonah.. where have you been?"
"uh just like football shit," he muttered, brushing it off as he wander through the classroom, taking the empty seat in the back row as he chucked his backpack on the ground.
slouched back in the chair, not paying any attention as their teacher continued, jonah held his phone down in his lap as he done anything but the work — mr. palgrave not even bothering to stop the lesson again to get him to listen.
letting out a heavy sigh as he turned his phone off and folded his arms, blankly staring around the room in boredom while many thoughts consumed his mind. his gaze soon landing on penelope as she glanced over at him, softly smiling.
poorly returning the gesture as he looked away from her, jonah slightly bounced his leg as he once again questioned where he wanted to take things with her and all the bet his friends had put on him.
and as the next forty minutes passed by and the bell to indicate the end of the less rung, jonah was quick to get up, grab his bag and make this way out of the classroom while penelope was still packing her belonging up, which only made her feel hurt.
"hey," marco smiled, gently tapping penelope's shoulder and causing her to look up at him as she swung her backpack over her arm.
"hey.."
"do you wanna walk to class together?" he more so suggested, slightly swaying his arm towards the door. "we're in the same science class.."
"yeah, okay.." she softly nodded.
"what's up with your little crush today?" he snickered as they made their way out of the classroom.
"who?" penelope glanced up at him then back at the floor in front of her.
"don't act like you don't know who i'm talking about," he chuckled. "jonah.."
"i don't know what's up with him.."
"do you two hang out?"
"um.. yeah, we have.."
"mh," he nodded. "got any plans for the weekend?"
"just work," she shrugged. "maybe hang out with my friends tomorrow night."
"i think one of your friends is hot.." he admitted, his hands now shoved in his pocket as he look over at her. "is that weird to say?"
"i mean.. no.." she somewhat awkwardly replied. "which friend though?"
"i'm not answering that," he quickly shook his head.
"i don't care that you don't like me.. i'm use to it," she slightly mumbled.
"woah, wait," he grabbed ahold of her hand and stopped her in the middle of the hallway. "don't get me wrong.. i think you're gorgeous and the fact that you think people disagree is stupid, and anyone who does disagree, they need to get their eyes checked, okay? but unfortunately for me, i don't swing your way.."
"oh.." she subtly nodded. "so you like elias?"
"if that's the guy you hang out with, then yes, i think he's hot- and i'd appreciate if you didn't tell him that cause like it'd be kinda awkward if he isn't on the same page.." marco rambled as they walked into their next classroom.
"he-"
"oh my god, saved by the bell, we're not bringing this up ever again."
"o- okay," she laughed at him — in a lot happier mood that she was before the chatter between classes, which was quite obvious to him as well.
