third person.

the following morning, penelope was up early to be at work. doing the repetitive job of serving, making coffees and sending customer's breakfast orders to the kitchen for a couple hours before a pair of familiar faces walked in, looking away for a second to find her co-worker who was cleaning up at table — meaning she had no choice but to talk to them.

"sit down, i'll go order," jonah said to the girl he was with after noticing penelope, leading her over to an empty table for two. "what did you want?"

"iced vanilla latte," she bluntly replied as she sat down and instantly pulled her phone out.

"any food?"

"no."

"alright," he agreed before walking over to the counter, smiling at the girl "so this is where you work huh.."

"well.. you never exactly asked where i did.." penelope replied, feeling her cheeks begin to heat up as she moved her eyes down to the screen in front of her. "what would you like today?"

"uh ruby will have an iced vanilla latte. and i'll have an americano and.." he answered, then looking over the menu board on the wall. "the uh.. savoury big breakfast."

"what size for the drinks?"

"both regular"

"and was that dine in?"

"yeah"

"okay, that'll be twenty-three dollars and seventy-five cents," she looked back up at him. "cash or card?"

"card," he said as he pulled his wallet out. "does the tip go to you?"

"yeah, when i get my pay," she nodded. "you can just pay on the screen there, and i'll bring it over when it's ready."

"what time do you finish?" he glanced between her and the screen as he paid for the food and drinks.

"um.. later.."

"do you want me to pick you up?"

"no, i- i gotta go home.."

"i'll text you," he sent her a smile, putting his card back into his wallet before walking back over to ruby as he left penelope to work.

"you know him?" brinlee asked as she watched the other girl begin to make the drinks after handing to the food order over to the kitcken.

"yeah.. um we go to school together."

"hhm," the elder nodded. "you seemed happy talking with him... who's the girl? his sister?"

"his girlfriend.."

"ohhhh, right, right," brinlee quietly chuckled. "that's awkward then.. did you want me to take these over?"

"um.. i can do it," she shook her head. "do you want to go serve that couple though.."

"oh yeah," she got up from leaning against the counter and went over to the register to attend to the customers she missed entering.

finishing up, penelope took a deep breath to gather her nerves and then picked up the cup, walking them over to the table. saying which drink was what as she sat them down in front of each other them.

"does this have almond milk?" ruby scoffed.

"um, uh no.. i- it's just regular milk.."

"it's suppose to be almond."

"you- it-"

"that's my bad," jonah interrupted. "you never asked for almond milk, rubs."

"well you should know."

"sorry," he subtly rolled his eyes, grabbing out his wallet as he notice how unsure penelope was getting, handing the girl some cash. "here, can you make another one with almond milk please, keep the change."

"iced vanilla latte with almond milk?" penelope confirmed with the other girl, receiving a duh sort of response. "okay, i'll be back in a minute.. and your food should be ready soon, jonah."

"thanks," he smiled.

"she's so fuckin' shit at her job," ruby muttered while folding her arms and leaning back in the seat. "she should get fired."

"no, it's not penny's fault," jonah defended. "we just went over this, i forgot that you like almond milk. she just made what i asked for, she didn't get it wrong."

"well she should know better-"

"ruby, stop, you're getting what you want, get over it," he shook his head in disbelief.

"why are you defending her so much?" she furrowed at him.

"because you're fuckin' being unnecessary."

"jonah you bully people all the fuckin' time, and what? you have morals now that we're in public- don't tell me you fucking she's hot like your dumbass friends do?" she scoffed. "look at her, she's not hot-"

"shut up."

"iced vanilla latte with almond milk and.. the savoury big breakfast," penelope said with a smile as she place them on the table. "enjoy."

"thanks," jonah returned a smile.

"anyway back to what i was saying.. she's not hot, saw she has great tits but that's all she's got going for her. she's not skinny, she needs to loose weight.. that hair style does not suit her at all, her makeup needs help, and..." ruby took a slip of her drink as she continued to stare of at the other girl. "and yeah, she just needs help."

"are you done now?" he raised a brow.

"yeah."

"alright, so you're jealous, got it-"

"i'm not jealous, i just don't understand why you defend her, that's all."

"because ollie would kill me if he knew i was talking shit about her, lets just move on, the quicker you let me eat my food, the sooner we can leave."

"fine."
