third person.
as second period on the wednesday came around, jonah and penelope had left the school grounds as they completed the skipping class portion of his friend's bet. but little did he know, it was actually her study period meaning it wouldn't go on her record, which is what she wanted when she agreed the other day.
"so friday?" jonah questioned, their hands intertwined as they walked to a local cafe close by that she had suggested.
"what about it?" she slightly furrowed while she glanced at him.
"are we gonna hang out?"
"ohh.." she realising why he had asked. "sorry i got distracted last night and i forgot to text you."
"all good. so the answer is..?"
"i can stay over on friday, but is it okay if you drop off at work on saturday? if you can't that's okay, ar- my friend already said she can pick me up if i need," she babbled. "plus my parents think i'm staying at her's anyway so.."
"yeah, what time was it?"
"twelve"
"yeah, i can do that for ya."
"so you're happy to skip the party?" penelope asked in a confusion tone. "even if you win?"
"I've skipped a party for you before," he reminded her. "i don't really care about going."
"i don't mind if we go and then go back to yours.." she more so suggested — having a good idea of what was going to be attempt later in the week, especially with it just being them there, which she wasn't sure about.
"nah cause.. ruby, you know, so we can't really hang out there," he shrugged it off. "i rather it just hang out at my place."
"oh, okay, right," she softly nodded, her gaze dropping to the ground as she watched where she was stepping.
"why? do you want to go to the party?"
"i just- do your friends and the team not question when you, the captain, don't show up?" she asked him.
"nah, they understand."
"but like, if you don't mind me asking.." she slightly mumbled. "how do you excuse yourself? like do you tell them you're hanging out with me? and like, what do you tell ruby?"
"the boys know everything," he shrugged. "and i mean, they're the reason we hang out."
"oh.. and ruby?"
"good question.. i haven't thought about her yet."
"okay.."
the pair fell silent and soon entered into the small cafe, jonah saying his order to the staff before asking penelope's for her's, then instructing her to take a seat as he paid. shoving the receipt in his pocket, he wandered over to the girl as the drinks were being made.
and as a few minutes passed, the staff brought their drinks over and sat them down in front of each other, getting jonah to look away from his phone which he had been on that whole time and penelope to stop fiddling with her finger as she thanks the elder.
"nel, smile," he took a quick picture of her before saving it to his memories and sending it to his friends, then turning his phone off and sitting it screen down on the table.
"what was that for..?"
"proof. plus you look cute."
"mh," she softly hummed to herself as she took a sip from her drink. "i have a question?"
"yea?"
"you said before that the boys know everything.. does that mean you told them about what we done the other night?"
"you know they know?" he furrowed. "we were sending them pictures throughout the night, remember?"
"no, i know, but i'm talking about that one thing.. that i asked you not to tell them.."
"oh the bj, yeah, um it may of accidentally slipped out.. why, did they say something to you?"
"no," she softly shook her head. "i was just seeing how trustworthy you are cause you did promise you wouldn't.."
"penny, on my mothers life i promise that it just slipped out the other day," he quickly defended. "plus the boys don't gossip like girls do, you can trust them knowing- i mean you haven't heard anything so if that doesn't say so, i don't know what will."
"you could've at least told me.."
"sorry, i knew you didn't want them to know so didn't think you'd wanna know that they did," he apologised. "i promise anything else that happens between us that you don't want others to know about, i wont tell anyone."
"it was just a slip up when they were frustrating me and trying to say that we didn't stay out all night," he continued. "i'm making sure we get all our money for our real date. i'm not letting them waste your time."
"okay.." she softly nodded. "and they're not wasting my time.. i like hanging out with you."
"i like hanging out with you too."
AUTHOR'S NOTE! a chill skipping class chapter while i avoid writing the last couple chapters of wonderland😁
also just a fyi when jonah says stuff like "they're the reason we hang" and things like that.. he's not intending for it to sound that way but is v much clueless as to the fact it does and that his wording hurts her and she's too awkward to ask about it. just thought i should mention that lol
