036. talk me out of it

chapter thirty-six

third person.

with a knock on her bedroom door, penelope paused her show as she softly called out to whoever was on the otherside. the door soon opening and revealing her older brother, ollie sharing a soft smile with her as he shut the door again behind himself.

"how are you doing?" he asked, taking a seat on the edge of her bed. "mom said you haven't really been out of your room.."

"i'm fine," she subtly shrugged.

"and how's jonah?" he raised a brow, chuckling as she shook her head at him. "you still seeing him?"

"sort of.."

"i find it so weird that you're with him.." he stated. "i know the type of guy he is and that does not equal your silly little romance shit."

"he can actually be really sweet.."

"can he?"

"why are you all targeting me today," she rolled her eyes. "why can't it just be okay that i like him.."

"i consider him a friend but i even i know he's no good. i would not tell any girl to date him unless her habits were a mirror of his. and penny, you are not that girl."

"why do you say that..?"

"haven't you heard the things he does being spread around the school?" he furrowed while receiving another small shrug. "he's constantly switching girls, doesn't give a fuck about their feelings, classic fuckboy. it's honestly not worth it."

"he's the only guy that's ever been interested in me.." penelope slightly sniffled while picking her kitten up and placing her in her lap, petting betty as she avoided making eye contact with her brother. "and i kinda wanna be with him.."

"you can be with him," he shrugged. "i don't care what you do but you just need to be careful messing around with him and just not fall too hard."

"i don't understand why you're so interested in knowing what i'm doing and trying to talk me out of it," she muttered.

"aurora told me that she doesn't think he's good for you.." he admitted, watching the girl groan as she fell back onto her bed. "and she's was more wanting me to talk with him and get it through his head not to treat you like shit.. but i wanted to know where you stood for it all first.."

"please don't talk to him," she quickly shook her head, sitting up again to look at him. "i can look after myself.. i know what i'm doing... i think.."

"if he ever hurts you, you tell me."

"okay.."

"how did you he even meet you?"

"we have a class together, our teacher sat him next to me cause he's distributive.."

"right.." he slowly nodded.  "has he check on you today?"

"he doesn't know about granny," she shook her head once again.

"that's not what i asked," he raised a brow.

"he hasn't- but he usually only texts at night. he probably just didn't realise i wasn't at school today since we didn't have any classes together."

"don't you think that says a lot?"

"no," she furrowed. "it's not that different to me seeing messages come through after like eight-thirty and don't respond even though i'm still very much awake.."

"so you two don't text?"

"no, we do, i don't ignore him.."

"you two are complete polar opposites," ollie laughed to lighten the mood a bit. "and don't reference some movie plot."

"opposites attract," she jokingly shrugged.

"that wasn't an invitation," he playfully sighed as he stood up. "dinner's probably ready now if you wanna come eat with all of us."

"i'll be out in a minute," she agreed.

watching her brother walk out of her bedroom, penelope cuddled with her kitten for a second as she thought everything through. thinking about sending jonah text but after remembering that he completely ghosted her the pervious night, which had drove her crazy since she didn't want to be asleep if he were to arrive — she decided against it to test realistically how long it would take for him to care.

then letting out a small sigh as she got up, leaving her phone on her bed while she quickly checked in the mirror how she looked before heading out of her bedroom with betty closely following her out to the kitchen.
