"hey penny," cecelia gained her daughters attention as she come into her opened bedroom, receiving a small hum as she spun around on her desk chair to look at her. "just so you know.. the o'hairs, and their daughter, and jude are going to come over for dinner tonight."
"okay... is there a reason?"
"sasha would like to just get to know us and make sure we're on the same page about you and jude before they leave tomorrow," she explained, watching her slowly nod. "which i agree with.. i don't think him being in a house alone for two weeks and you easily being able to sneak out is the best thing.."
"yeah, i get it," she nodded once again. "that's okay, i don't mind."
"be honest with me right now, i won't say anything to dad, i just want to know.. when he's there alone would you go over there without telling us?"
"um.. jude actually spent a night here last week.." penelope admitted. "we didn't do anything- nothing happened.. we were just taking about.. his home town, and we accidentally fell asleep.."
"right," cecelia nodded.
"i'm sorry.."
"thanks for being honest about it," she replied. "will you come set the table in a bit, please?"
"mhm, i can," she quickly agreed.
"thank you"
with her mother then leaving the room, penelope turned her attention back to her homework with the biggest smile on her lips, excited to see the boy as she hadn't seen much of him all week.
her focus now completely distracted, she closed her book, grabbed her phone and laptop before heading over to her bed. getting comfortable and putting her show on, while going straight to her friends' group chat on her phone and updating them on the dinner plans.
and after almost an hour and the episode she was on came to an end, she decided to head out to the kitchen. sharing a small smile with her mother and talking about the meal as she folded each end of the dining table out to extended the table and gave it all a quick wipe down.
"are the extra chairs in the garage still?"
"should be," cecelia nodded. "but ollie will be home in a minute, so just wait for him and he can give you a hand."
"okay"
instead, she headed over to the kitchen space and quickly counting in her head how many it'd be while she grabbed out the plates from the cabinet.
as some time passed and penelope had now finished setting the table, ollie was arriving home from his after class antics. their mother instantly pestering him to help the girl out with bringing the extra dinning chairs in from the garage.
