coming home to davis' home after the party, despite cecelia hoping for the four boys to take the blow up mattresses in her office and the girl's in penelope's room, aurora slept on one mattress with her boyfriend while marco and elias were on the other.
and for penelope, she fell asleep in jude's arms on one half of her bed and then layla on the other side.
when waking up, jude could tell it wasn't quite morning yet due to the lack of sun coming through the curtains, but was confused by the brightness from layla's phone screen lighting up part of the room as she scrolled through it.
reaching for his phone behind him on the night stand while trying to carefully move and not wake penelope, he checked the time. 3:40am. setting it back down he laid there for a few seconds.
"hey," he reached over and softly patted the girl's shoulder, causing her to quickly flick her head in his direction.
"sorry i'll.. i'll turn my brightness down," she apologised as she done so.
"it's fine, you don't have too," he shook his head. "but are you alright?"
she frozen for a second before softly nodding, matching his softly spoken tone; "yeah i'm okay.. insomnia.. i always wake up for a couple hours through the night.."
"oh okay.. at least try and get some sleep."
"mh i will," she turned back to laying how she was and scrolling through her phone. "hey," she looked over her shoulder again, gaining his attention. "um i know penny was actually stupid tonight, making out with jonah, but could you maybe just excuse that and give her another chance..?"
"she really likes you and she deserves someone like you who'll treat her well and with respect and all that.. jonah just pulled at her heartstrings the right way tonight to get her attention back, anyone could sing her taylor and she'll probably fall in love with them."
"might have to try it on her then," he softly chuckled. "but nah, it's honestly fine. i've been a dick in past relationships, i probably karma.."
"mh, right.." she softly nodded. "well, that's all.."
"okay, good night," he said through a small yawn.
"night," she replied before turning back to her phone.
and as the morning rolled around, the whole lot of teens slept in and then got up around midday to eat the breakfast cecelia had prepared for them. afterwards, heading to penelope's bedroom and all getting comfortable as they recapped the previous night.
"i'm actually gonna go next door to mine and shower and get dress, talk to mum and all that," jude whispered to penelope as he placed a quick kiss on her forehead and stood up. "let you have some time with your friends.."
"okay," she nodded with a smile, watching him walk over to her other side. "come back over whenever."
"i'll be at least an hour, i'll text you."
"okay.." she sent him a smile, then turning back to her friends as he walked out the door.
"he acts so sweet," marco mentioned.
"so penny.. now that he's gone.. do you maybe want to explain what the go was with jonah carrying on last night about jude being in jail?" aurora subtly titled her head. "and how we need to keep him away from you for your safety.."
"how does jonah know that?" penelope furrowed.
"jude must've told him," she shrugged. "he was like 'jude said he's been to jail' and 'penny shouldn't be with a guy like that' blah blah blah."
"oh.."
"did you know about this prison situation?" elias replied.
"mhm," she nodded. "it was one of the first things he told me.."
"what did he go to jail for?" layla quickly questioned.
"he.. pleaded guilty to something that wasn't necessarily his fault- can we not talk about it right now, i don't want mom and dad finding out.."
"but what did he do?"
"drunk driving.. and people in another car doing the same, passing away in a crash that he physically wasn't involved in," she partly explained.
"oh.. that's.. interesting.."
"he went cause he felt bad, that's all really.. he's very honest, if you had of asked him i'm sure he would've told you.."
"i was talking with him last night," austin spoke up. "and just from the way that he looks, and the fact he's from england and teenaged girls love that.. i'm honestly surprised he doesn't have a bigger ego."
"you can be.. attractive while not being a dick.." penelope defended the boy.
"he use to be though.." layla mentioned, causing the younger to flick her head towards her.
"what? what do you mean?"
"we were talking.. i told him to excuse you making out with jonah and how you would probably make out with anyone who sung a taylor song to you. and he said, quote unquote, 'it's fine, i've been a dick in relationships, it's probably karma'."
"oh.."
"let's not.." aurora softly shook her head at everyone before moving her gaze back to the girl. "guys can be shit and not treat girls well, we know that, but they can also try to be better and improve their behaviour... jude had a few girls come up to him last night wanting to get with him and every time 'no thanks i've got a girl' even when you were off with jonah.."
"i think he's got a good heart, like genuinely," she continued. "you know his family, pen, he's staying with you, and before this he wanted to hang out with you all the time, and the way that boy looks at you.. i just don't think he has bad intentions when it comes to being with you."
"mh.." penelope softly hummed. "i trust jude, a lot.. i know i missed judge jonah but i hope you all can just have a little faith this time.."
"it's your life, you're allowed to make whatever decision you want," marco sent her a small smile.
