"what happened to polo?" jonah raised a brow as the pulled out the chair for the desk in their math class where said boy would usually sit. "thought i saw him here earlier."
"marco had an appointment, had to leave early," penelope slightly mumbled as she avoided eye contact with him.
"is it your birthday today?"
"tomorrow."
"hey! look at me," he instructed, having a smug expression on his face as she turned her head towards him. "i knew you'd come back to me."
"it was a mistake," she shook her head as she looked back at her book. "i was drunk."
"drunk actions are sober thoughts," he shrugged.
"they're not."
"you're just tellin' yourself that cause of jude, aren't ya?"
"no, i mean it. it was a mistake."
"he's a convicted criminal and you're in love with him?" jonah raised a brow at her, causing a couple others sitting around them to begin listening in.
"you don't even know what he done."
"do you?"
"yes."
"wait penny," emilie chimed in from behind them, causing the girl to look over her shoulder. "did i just hear that hot british guy you were all over the other night is a criminal?"
"he done nothing," she said through a huff as she turned back to her notebook.
"he told me," jonah continued. "'i'm not scared of you i've been to prison'," he poorly mocked a british accent. "clearly he done something."
not replying, a couple of seconds of thoughts went into her grabbing her phone, getting up and walking over towards the door.
"c'mon penny we're just messin' with ya," jonah called out.
"where are you heading penny?" mr palgrave's head followed in the direction of the girl as they passed each other while he was coming into the classroom.
"just to the bathroom quickly.. if that's okay..?"
"that's fine," he nodded.
"thank you," she simply replied.
continuing her walk to wherever, she unlocked her phone, found jude's contact and hit call — remembered he had told her his last period business class was everyone just sitting on their phones.
"hey pretty," he answered the call.
"hi.." a instant smile forming on her face from hearing his voice.
"shouldn't you be in math class?" he chuckled, keeping quite despite the rest of his class using the opposite voice level.
"mh yeah.. but i needed to get out of there for a moment.."
"is everything alright?"
"yeah.." penelope said with a small sigh. "jonah mentioned about you being in prison.. and some others heard and they were asking questions about it.. our teacher wasn't there yet so he couldn't tell them to stop.."
"sorry i probably shouldn't have mentioned it to him the other night," he apologised. "i just got frustrated with his stupidity."
"it's okay, you don't need to apologise," she replied. "it's not like you shared something about me, it was about yourself.. and i just- there's no point explaining it cause it's not really their business and also people can't understand that it's wasn't your fault.."
"i get it.. maybe you should start telling those that ask that i have superpowers and needed to be detained or something crazily unbelievable like that," he laughed.
"they're gonna think you're crazy," she giggled. "imagined it was prison when really it was an insane asylum."
"ugh it's better than being known as boring.. don't need them finding out i didn't talk to anyone in there and i spent everyday at the gym to seem tough or doing my part in the kitchen, cheffing it up."
"you're so fascinating"
"i have a lot more lore but i'll save it for a future chat, it's not some much badboy activities like the girls are into," he chuckled.
"i don't care how badboy it is," she mocked the way he said it. "i could forever listen to you talk, i love hearing words come out of your mouth."
"i would love to talk forever for you but i don't want to get you into trouble for being late to class.." he responded. "cecelia will not be happy if she found out i was distracting you from across town."
"mom doesn't care that much, it's dad you should be worried about," she laughed. "but it's okay, my teacher thinks i've gone to the bathroom."
"right.. and how long are you allowed bathroom breaks over there?" he playfully asked. "we've got like five minutes here, i swear."
"well, i'm a girl, and a student that can be trusted so i can take a bit longer, no questions asked," she explained, turning around on the spot since she still was just wandering around. "i should probably start heading back though, don't want to be too far behind."
"you don't want to be spending your last couple hours of being seventeen doing homework either," he reminded.
"mh good point."
"and i'm not gonna let ya do homework.." jude said, causing her to softly laugh. "so you better go and get ahead of everyone."
"okay, okay.. i'll see you after work then."
"what time do you finish again? 6:30 or 7?"
"seven"
"okay, plenty of time to wrap your present- bye pretty, have fun solving your math equations."
"have fun doin' nothing," she replied with a small giggle.
