" I don't like a gold rush. "

"Therefore..." Keira looked at James expectantly.

"Therefore..." She started smiling, "I don't know." Her smile dropped.

"James I just told you!"

"I'm sorry I don't work well under pressure." James complained as he leaned his head back, resting it on the tree.

"Fine, let's take a break from Transfiguration. What do you wanna do instead?" Keira spoke closing the textbook and looking at the other one scattered around as she laid on her front.

"Nothing." He mumbled, his eyes closed.

"James if you wanna be an Auror you gotta know this stuff."

"I've got another year to learn it." He whined bringing his head back down and opening his eyes to look at an impatient looking Keira O'Connor. "Five minutes and we can do Potions." He compromised with a pained look on his face.

"You're gonna have to start paying me for this tutoring I'm putting up with more than I signed up for." Keira said as James moved to lay on his back, the autumn sun shining onto his closed eyes. He let out a 'Mhmm' in response.

It had been a month since the party and Keira and James had become pretty close friends, they had a lot more in common than they thought they did. Keira's group had also been hanging out a lot more with the Marauders, mainly because of Keira and James and Marlene and Sirius' friendships, but they all found friends within each other.

During that month Keira had also developed a small crush on James Potter but despite him spending so much time with her, he still seemed to like Lily, he was always subtle about his crush on her but to someone like Keira who had her focus on him, it was obvious. He would always try to get a seat next to Lily in the Great Hall and if he didn't he would have his gaze only on her, he always offered to help her with things like helping her carry her ingredients to her table in potions even though he worked with Peter. They were small things but they were frequent and if you added them together anyone could tell.

The next day, the girls were walking down the staircase from DADA - Ravenclaws and Gryffindors had theirs together. "Keira, I saw you and Potter getting close." Mary wiggled her eyebrows at Keira whose cheeks suddenly went pink.

"Ooo Keira and James sitting in a tree-" Josie started singing being interrupted by Keira.

"We were just hanging out!"

"K-I-S-S-I-N-G!" Josie and Marlene sang in unison, Lily and Mary laughing.

"It's not like that I was helping him study and we were just chatting." Keira groaned, "Anyway, he's still obsessed over Lily."

"So you admit you like him!" Marlene shouted, getting a 'Shh' from Lily.

"No! I'm just saying if I did nothing would happen because he doesn't like me like that."

"C'mon K, any guy would kill to be with you." Lily threw her arm around her shoulders.

"Thanks Lils." The two girls smiled at each other sweetly as the group entered the Great Hall, sitting on the ravenclaw table for lunch, all moving on to a different topic but keeping their usual teasing and giggling.

That night Lily and Keira walked through the fire-lit corridors of Hogwarts doing their Prefects duty, before they had been chatting quietly. "Keira can I ask you something?" Lily spoke sounding semi-serious.

"Yeah, 'course anything."

"Do you really like James?"

"Kinda." She said quietly.

"You know you can, there's no awkwardness between us if you do."

"I know but that doesn't change the fact he's liked you for years."

"I don't think he really likes me anymore, it's just kinda routine for him to be like that, if you give him hints I'm sure he'll drop whatever it is about me and go straight to you."

"I don't think so Lily." Keira spoke pessimistically.

"I do. He might do small favours for me now and again, but I've seen him staring at you in class or really anyway with this look in his eye," He Lily stopped them from walking, looking into Keira's eyes as she spoke.

"Yeah, that look is friendship." Keira spoke sarcastically, walking again.

"No, like you're the most beautiful girl he's ever seen."

"Lily don't joke."

"I'm not he seriously likes you!" Keira stopped walking.

"Are you sure you're not just telling me this because you're my best friend and it's your duty to feed into my delusions?"

"Positive." Lily smiled, "Look, he's a guy. Guys take time with these things even if you're giving the clearest signs ever, just give it time and he'll be asking you out in no time."

"Yeah, guys are fucking clueless." The two girls laughed. Lily pulled Keira into a warm hug.

"We're all good?" Lily confirmed.

"We're all good." Keira smiled, they then continued walked and chatting like normal.
