" Please don't ever become a stranger whose laugh I could recognise anywhere. "
Keira woke up, the sun shining in through a window and onto her face. Last night the group had decided last minute to have a sleepover at James'. So, there Keira laid on James' bed, between him - who had his arm draped over her waist - and a snoring Sirius who had taken up most of the bed by sprawling his arms and legs out. She carefully moved so she was facing James, she admired how peaceful he looked while sleeping, taking in the beauty of the bridge of his nose which was almost always covered by his glasses, his long but dead straight eyelashes, and the way his mouth parted open just slightly.
After last night's new year's countdown, Sirius had stopped them from spending anymore time together by dragging them down back to the party that was downstairs. Keira was quite shocked by James saying he loved her, it seemed incredibly early to Keira, but it was exactly what James does; when he cares for you he will love you.
So, there Keira laid, looking at James' face trying to rangle her million thoughts into a coherent sentence that explained how she felt. Interrupting her thoughts was James' eye fluttering open, a smile quickly forming on his face after recognising the person next to her.
"Have you been awake long?" James whispered, not wanting to wake anyone else up. Keira shook her head gently as James pulled her in closer, his head nuzzled into her shoulder.
"Hey, James?" James hummed in response, "I think I love you too." She whispered. Keira wasn't sure at all what came over her to say it, she wasn't even sure if what she was feeling was love, but whatever it was made her happy and feel an intense care for the boy.
James tilted his head up to kiss Keira, it felt just as it did the other night; peaceful and right.
The two laid for a bit longer in comfortable silence, just enjoying each other's company until they decided to go downstairs. James grinned as he closed his bedroom door behind them, Keira's hand in his own, pulling her close and kissing her again.
Euphemia and Fleamont sat at the kitchen table, plates of breakfast in front of them while sharing their copy of the Daily Prophet. The two adults looked up smiling when seeing James and Keira walk in.
"Morning you two, are you the only ones up?" Euphemia immediately went to the fridge pulling out ingredients with a smile on her face. Keira nodded sitting at the barstool where Euphemia stood mixing ingredients in a bowl.
"Yeah, they're all still asleep." Keira smiled as James walked over to his dad who handed him a section of the paper - the sports section.
Euphemia nodded, "Well, I hope you like pancakes."
"I love them." Keira grinned, looking over at James who shared a knowing smirk with her, "Can I help with anything, Euphemia?"
The woman waved her hand with a laugh, "Oh please, dear, call me Mia, Euphemia is too formal." Keira smiled at her nodding, "But, if you don't mind, you can start melting the butter on the pan."
The two women continued to chat while cooking pancakes, deciding to make enough for everyone else. As the four sat at the kitchen table, their conversation was interrupted by loud running down the stairs which was carried into the entrance of the kitchen, Keira turned around to see Sirius panting with messy bed hair and crinkled clothes on, him already putting his shoes on.
"I'm late getting home so I've got to go right now. Thank you for having me M&M." Keira was concerned about his panic-stricken face to which she turned to James for guidance, but he seemed both concerned and angry.
"It was our pleasure, Sirius." Fleamont smiled before Sirius waved and quickly walked to the fireplace. James jumped up out of his seat, following Sirius to the living room's fireplace, Keira watched them through the open arch where she could see the two boys converse quickly as James pulled Sirius into a hug just seconds before Sirius left via floo powder. James turned around with a sad look on his face, walking back to his seat slower than he left.
Breakfast ended quickly after everyone else grabbed a couple pancakes, eating them quickly and then leaving, thanking Mr and Mrs Potter. Before they knew it, it was just Keira and James left in his bedroom. Keira only lived about a 30 minute train ride from James' home so her muggle commute was very easy so she didn't have to leave as early, yes, she could just use floo powder, but Keira enjoyed using muggle public transportation.
Keira sat on James' bed wearing a jumper and joggers that he had lent to her after her shower since she didn't plan on sleeping over, she didn't have an extra change of clothes. While James was in the shower, Keira decided to snoop around his room, mostly looking at the books and vinyls on his shelves. Keira admired the framed photo that stood on his bedside table of him and his parents smiling brightly at the camera.
An vinyl caught her eye, she pulled it out of the shelf, admiring the front cover of her favourite album, Rumours by Fleetwood Mac.
"Play it." Keira spun around to see James stood by the open bathroom door, nothing but a towel wrapped around his waist. Keira turned around quickly, hiding her pink cheeks as she placed the cd into the player and hitting play, the room was filled with Second Hand News. Next thing she knew, James spun Keira around pulling her into her arms making her dance with him.
Keira giggled as James twirled her around as the song faded down transitioning to Dreams. "What's your favourite song off this album?" Keira asked.
"Hmmm," James thought for a second, "Second Hands News." Keira nodded in slight agreement.
"I'm a Gold Dust Woman fan."
. . .
Keira and James decided to floo to London where Keira quickly rang her parents in a phone booth letting them know she'd be home late.
The two explored the less busy streets hands in hand, feeling as if it was them against the world. Keira had never felt as much appreciation as she did in that moment and she decided that she didn't want this moment to end. She didn't want her relationship with James to change, she wanted to be his for as long as time would let her be.
The two stopped at a quaint coffee shop where they took a small table at the back, the two sat, a black coffee in front of Keira and a tea in front of James, exchanging their usual jokes.
There was nothing different to James and Keira on the surface, the two still had their own little sense of humour with each other, they still debated each other on the most random things imaginable. But, so much had changed on New year's day, memories that would stay tattooed on their hearts were made that day. Wether it was at 00:00 AM or at 11:59 PM, the two had the same understanding; that they would hold onto each other as much and as long as they could because the war was growing and neither knew how long they had with each other.
(A/N: This was kind of a filler chapter, something wrote just quickly but I've had this chapter idea with the song since I started planning this whole book and was just excited to use it!
Also yes, James and Keira's relationship is really quick with them already saying I love you and all that, but it's for the plot and will make sense after a while! Anyway, hope you enjoyed, fingers crossed I get out another chapter tomorrow!!)
