more fun to miss

" More fun to miss than to be with. "

It had been a couple days since Keira had gotten home from Hogwarts and was already Christmas Eve. Just like every year, Paige, Luca, and this year, Oliver had come back to their childhood home in Cornwall to celebrate.

A knock sounded at Keira's door, "Yes." She said, not taking her eyes off of her parchment she was writing on, not in the mood to have either one of her brothers annoy her.

"Hey." When she heard it was Paige at the door, she turned around.

"Hi." Keira smiled as Paige closed the door behind her and sat on Keira's bed.

"Wow, that looks intense." Paige pointed to the amount of paper and books on Keira's desk.

Keira laughed, "That's not even all of it."

"So school is going well?"

"Oh yeah, if drowning in work means it's going well." Keira said, Paige letting out a small laugh.

"So, I heard you and James broke up." Keira's smile dropped from being reminded of her heartbreak.

"Yeah." She said quietly.

"Sorry, it's just your parents told Luca and he told me. You know how he has a big mouth."

"No it's fine, I would've told you I've just been wrapped up in so much recently."

Paige shook her head, "Trust me, I've been there, no need to apologise."

Keira gave her a small smile and a "Thanks."

"Why did it happen?" Paige asked, laying on her side, her arm propping her up.

Keira sighed, leaning back in her chair, "A lot of reasons, we were fighting a lot, he felt I wasn't spending enough time with him because I was spending too much time studying and doing work. Looking back I definitely was being a bitch."

Paige nodded, not saying anything but having a sympathetic look on her face.

"We went on a break and things seemed to be going pretty good, but then all of a sudden we broke up."

"Mutually?"

"No, I broke up with him. He wanted to make it work but... I just didn't know what else to do, y'know?" Paige nodded. "We're not on speaking terms anymore, we got into a big fight after a halloween party and I'm just not really in the mood to speak to him anytime soon."

"I'm sorry, Keira."

"No, don't be," She shook head, walking over to her bookshelf and putting a book away on it.

"I know, I just thought you two were good together. He seemed obsessed with you."

"Things change." Keira shrugged, sitting on the bed with Paige.

"So anyone else on the horizon or are you not interested?"

"Not interested. I've made new friends and they've been great, but I'm not interested in any relationships any time soon. I'm still getting over him." Keira sighed, laying on her back.

The two girls stayed like that for a while, catching up with each other on things that had happened since they saw each other in the summer. Paige told Keira about her and Luca's new apartment and how they're thinking of getting a cat.

Paige and Keira had a very close bond, they've known each other for a while and quickly become close. Paige isn't on speaking terms with her family because of different opinions - her family are Pureblood supremacists - so, the O'Connor family have basically taken her in, even before her and Luca started dating; when they were just best friends.
