I glanced toward the red folder resting on my desk.

The file contained every detail about one employee I had somehow started noticing more often lately.

Shreya Joshi.

Truthfully...

I had never paid much attention to her before.

But apparently, my mother had.

For the last six months, she had been repeatedly bringing up one name during almost every family conversation.

At first, I had ignored it.

Mother had a habit of mentally interviewing every woman she considered "potential daughter-in-law material."

But unlike the others...

She never stopped mentioning Shreya.

It had honestly started becoming irritating.

At dinners.

During family gatherings.

Even random phone calls.

The conversation somehow always circled back to one thing.

That girl.

I still remembered one conversation clearly.

"Rey, I'm serious."

Mother had folded her arms while glaring at me.

"That girl is perfect for you."

I had laughed.

"You say that about half the women you meet."

She had narrowed her eyes.

"No."

"Most women tolerate your nonsense because of your money."

"But Shreya?"

"She doesn't care who you are."

"She argues with you."

"She doesn't flatter you."

"She doesn't behave like a lovestruck fool around you."

"She is independent."

"She works hard despite belonging to an influential family."

"And most importantly..."

"She is one of the very few people I have seen who can actually handle your impossible personality."

I had smirked.

"So basically..."

"You found me a wife?"

Mother looked dangerously serious.

"I found you the wife."

I had laughed then.

But last night...

She stopped joking.

Her expression had completely changed.

"Get married before my fifty-fifth birthday."

She looked directly at me.

"And I am done waiting for you to stop behaving like an irresponsible teenager."

I had raised an eyebrow.

"And if I don't?"

She smiled coldly.
